An increase in the rate of sister chromatid exchanges (SCE) was found when V79 Chinese hamster cells were exposed to increasingly severe degrees of arginine and lysine deficiency. The data suggest a possible function of chromosomal proteins, and of histones in particular, in the maintenance of the low normal rate of SCE.

We report a study of internal covalent cross-linking with photolytically generated diarylnitrile imines of N-terminal arginine, lysine, and histidine residues in peptide conjugates. Conjugates in which a 4-(2-phenyltetrazol-5-yl)benzoyl group was attached to C-terminal lysine, that we call RAAA--K, KAAA--K, and HAAA--K, were ionized by electrospray and subjected to UV photodissociation (UVPD) at 213 nm. UVPD triggered loss of N and proceeded by covalent cross-linking to nitrile imine intermediates that involved the side chains of N-terminal arginine, lysine, and histidine, as well as the peptide amide groups.

Insights into the pharmaceutical properties and in silico study of novel hydrazone derivatives.

Sci Rep

Department of Animal Production, College of Food and Agriculture Sciences, King Saud University, Riyadh, 11451, Saudi Arabia.

It has been established that the Hydrazone derivatives have important pharmacological effects. In the first step, hydrazine (NHNH) reacts with a compound containing a carbonyl group (C = O) in the presence of ethanol and heat, leading to the formation of hydrazone compound (H1). The second step is the formation of the Schiff base (H2) by the reaction of compound (H1) with indole, ethanol, and acetic acid, which contain a double bond (C = N).

Article Synopsis
  • Advanced glycation end-products (AGE) are harmful protein modifications linked to serious health issues like neurodegenerative diseases, heart disease, and diabetes, caused by toxic byproducts of glucose metabolism.
  • Research reveals that AGE crosslinking activates a specific antibacterial enzyme in the bacteria Enterobacter cloacae, which is linked through a unique interaction between two amino acids.
  • The study highlights that glycation can stabilize protein structures, especially in environments where traditional stabilizing methods (like disulfide bonds) are not effective, suggesting broader implications for protein engineering.

Resistance exercise (RE) increases collagen synthesis in young and older men, whereas hydrolyzed collagen (HC) ingestion improves this response to RE in a dose-response manner in young men. However, the collagen synthesis response to RE with and without HC in middle-aged men is unknown. Eight resistance-trained men (age: 49 ± 8 yr; height: 1.
