It is crucial to understand the glucose control within our bodies. Bariatric/metabolic surgeries, including laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG) and Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB), provide an avenue for exploring the potential key factors involved in maintaining glucose homeostasis since these surgeries have shown promising results in improving glycemic control among patients with severe type 2 diabetes (T2D). For the first time, a markedly altered population of serum proteins in patients after LSG was discovered and analyzed through proteomics.

Diabetes is a global health issue affecting over 6% of the world and 11 % of the US population. It is closely linked to insulin resistance, a pivotal factor in Type 2 diabetes development. This review explores a promising avenue for addressing insulin resistance through the lens of Milk-Derived Bioactive Peptides (MBAPs).

School of Pharmacy, Center of Graduate Studies, West Coast University, 590 N Vermont Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90004, USA.

Gene therapy has emerged as a promising frontier in the management of diabetes, offering innovative approaches to address both type 1 and type 2 diabetes. This narrative review examines the advancements in gene therapy applications, focusing on both animal and human studies, and includes a total of 11 studies in adherence to PRISMA guidelines. These studies utilize various viral vectors, such as adeno-associated virus (AAV) and lentivirus, to deliver genes that regulate insulin production and enhance angiogenesis.

Introduction: Treatment of type 2 diabetes (T2D) remains a significant challenge because of its multifactorial nature and complex metabolic pathways. There is growing interest in finding new therapeutic targets that could lead to safer and more effective treatment options. Takeda G protein-coupled receptor 5 (TGR5) is a promising antidiabetic target that plays a key role in metabolic regulation, especially in glucose homeostasis and energy expenditure.

Diabetes presents a significant challenge to healthcare due to the short- and long-term complications associated with poor blood sugar control. Computer simulation platforms have emerged as promising tools for advancing diabetes therapy by simulating patient responses to treatments in a virtual environment. The University of Virginia Virtual Lab (UVLab) is a new simulation platform engineered to mimic the metabolic behavior of individuals with type 2 diabetes (T2D) using a mathematical model of glucose homeostasis in T2D and a large population of 6062 virtual subjects.
