The microvascular anatomy of the physis has been demonstrated by perfusing the epiphysis with an aqueous suspension of barium sulfate. Plain radiographs taken immediately after perfusion reveal escape of dye into the metaphysis and into the system veins. Microradiographs reveal a labyrinthine network of channels on either side of the physis.

The results of early diagnosis of acute hematogenous osteomyelitis in 329 children were analysed, causes of diagnostic errors and late hospitalization studied. A comparative assessment of diagnostic potentialities of liquid crystal termography (142 cases), osteotonometry and cytologic of a punctate of medullar cavity (89), osteomedullography (65), intraosseous thermometry (75) and roentgenography of the bones. Use of liquid crystal thermography permitted to establish location and spreading of the inflammatory process in a bone at the first day of the disease, to control the effectiveness of treatment, to predict its course and outcome.

Osteomedullography was performed in 17 diaphyseal fractures of the tibia at ten to 12 weeks from injury to assess the reliability and sensitivity of the procedure in predicting non-union. It was found to be accurate in more than 80% of cases in predicting the ultimate outcome early in the course of fracture healing.

The authors have performed osteomedullography in 25 cases of tibial non-union. They conclude that a complete block at the fracture level is in favour of an established non-union. This technique can make it possible to differentiate between delayed bone union and non-union.

Three clinical cases of canine avascular femoral head necrosis and 4 cases of hip dysplasia were examined using intraosseus femoral neck venography. The contrast medium passed initio the diaphyseal bone marrow in all cases. Three growing dogs and 7 growing pigs were examined with the same method, before and after experimental ligation of the femoral veins.
