Clinical trials have demonstrated the potential neuroprotective effects of uric acid (UA) in Alzheimer's disease (AD). However, the specific mechanism underlying the neuroprotective effect of UA remains unclear. In the present study, we investigated the neuroprotective effect and underlying mechanism of UA in AD mouse models.

Maple Syrup Urine Disease (MSUD) is an autosomal recessive inborn error of metabolism (IEM), responsible for the accumulation of the branched-chain amino acids (BCAA) leucine, isoleucine, and valine, in addition to their α-keto acids α-ketoisocaproic acid (KIC), α-keto-β-methylvaleric acid (KMV), and α-ketoisovaleric acid (KIV) in the plasma and urine of patients. This process occurs due to a partial or total blockage of the dehydrogenase enzyme activity of branched-chain α-keto acids. Oxidative stress and inflammation are conditions commonly observed on IEM, and the inflammatory response may play an essential role in the pathophysiology of MSUD.

The different effects of deoxynivalenol (DON) on intestinal barrier and stem cells by its route of exposure remain less known. We explored the toxic effects of DON on intestinal barrier functions and stem cells after DON microinjection (luminal exposure) or addition to a culture medium (basolateral exposure) using three-dimensional mouse intestinal organoids (enteroids). The influx test using fluorescein-labeled dextran showed that basolateral DON exposure (1 micromolar (µM) disrupted intestinal barrier functions in enteroids compared with luminal DON exposure at the same concentration.

The central neurotensin system has been implicated in reward, memory processes, also in the regulation of anxiety. However, the neural substrates where neurotensin acts to regulate anxiety have not been fully identified. The prelimbic region of medial prefrontal cortex (PrL) holds a key position in the modulation of anxiety-related behaviors and expresses neurotensin 1 receptor (NTS1).

Mlxipl regulates glucose metabolism, lipogenesis and tumorigenesis and has a wide-ranging impact on human health and disease. However, the role of Mlxipl in neuropathic pain remains unknown. In this study, we found that Mlxipl was increased in the ipsilateral L4-L6 spinal dorsal horn after Spared Nerve Injury surgery.
