Cell culture underpins virus isolation and virus neutralisation tests, which are both gold-standard diagnostic methods for foot-and-mouth disease (FMD). Cell culture is also crucial for the propagation of inactivated foot-and-mouth disease virus (FMDV) vaccines. Both primary cells and cell lines are utilised in FMDV isolation and propagation.

The extent of endocrine changes in response to various levels of heat stress and subsequent recovery is not well understood. Two cohorts of 12 Black Angus steers were housed in climate-controlled rooms (CCR) and subjected to three thermal periods: PreChallenge (5 d), Challenge (7 d) and Recovery (5 d). PreChallenge and Recovery provided thermoneutral conditions.

Cardiovascular problems in rabbits in reference to hypothyroidism - a four-year retrospective study.

Pol J Vet Sci

December 2024

Department of Epizootiology and the Clinic of Infectious Diseases, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Life Sciences in Lublin, Głęboka 30, 20-612 Lublin, Poland.

The effects of T4 are mainly manifested by positive ino- and chronotropism. The syndrome accompanying hypothyroidism in rabbits (impaired myocardial contractility and reduced ejection capacity) is caused by a deficiency of thyroid hormones - especially T4. The study group consisted of a total of 41 animals: 15 males and 26 females, ranging in age from 2 months to 8 years, with echocardiogram showing reduced fractional shortening (<30%), with normal results of heamatological and biochemical tests.

Thyrotropin receptor (TSHR) and insulin-like growth factor 1 receptor (IGF-1R) have been shown to crosstalk in primary cultures of human thyrocytes (hThyros) and Graves' orbital fibroblasts. The phenomenon of TSHR/IGF-1R crosstalk has been largely studied in the pathogenesis of thyroid eye disease (TED) in human orbital fibroblasts. Here, we investigated the effects of inhibiting the IGF-1R-mediated contribution to crosstalk by linsitinib (Lins), a small-molecule IGF-1R kinase inhibitor, on TSH-induced regulation of thyroperoxidase (TPO) and thyroglobulin (TG) mRNAs and proteins in hThyros and on TPO and TG mRNAs and free thyroxine (fT4) levels in mice.

Atherosclerosis (AS) is a lipid-driven chronic inflammatory disease characterized by the presence of numerous proinflammatory cytokines, massive reactive oxygen species (ROS) and excess lipids, which together result in an overall inflammatory positive feedback loop in the plaque focus. Due to its excellent enzyme-like activity in ROS scavenging and inflammation inhibition, as well as its photothermal effects in the lipid efflux ability of foam cells, Prussian blue (PB) has greater potential in preventing inflammatory factor loops for enhanced treatment of AS than traditional nanozymes. In this study, the multifunctional nanozyme BSA@PB/Cur was synthesized by self-assembly of bovine serum albumin (BSA) with PB and further encapsulation of the anti-inflammatory drug curcumin (Cur).
