Updates in Arterial Ulcers.

Nurs Clin North Am

March 2025

Division of Vascular, Endovascular, and Wound Surgery, Department of Surgery and Medical Education, University of Toledo, Mail Stop 1095, 3000 Arlington Avenue, Toledo, OH 43614-2598, USA. Electronic address:

Arterial ulcers are a clinical symptom of a complex array of underlying comorbid factors, namely peripheral artery disease (PAD). Chronic limb-threatening ischemia is representative of end-stage PAD. Ulcers of other etiologies can carry an arterial component, mandating recognition of risk factors, a comprehensive history and physical examination, and appropriate diagnostic testing in lower extremity ulcers.

Background: Several studies have demonstrated a notable increase in the incidence of atrial arrhythmias among individuals with atrial septal defect (ASD) occluder. Although the sequential dilation technique has been proposed as the mainstream technique for transseptal puncture with ASD occluder, it is associated with substantial risks and technical difficulties.

Case Summary: We report a patient who underwent catheter ablation for atrial fibrillation and had a large ASD occluder.

Tissue nanotransfection-based endothelial PLCγ2-targeted epigenetic gene editing in vivo rescues perfusion and diabetic ischemic wound healing.

Article Synopsis
  • Diabetic wounds suffer from complications due to poor blood flow linked to vascular issues.
  • Previous attempts to use VEGF therapy to enhance healing haven't shown effective results, partly due to low levels of the enzyme phospholipase Cγ2 (PLCγ2).
  • By utilizing advanced gene-targeting techniques, specifically CRISPR/dCas9, researchers were able to demethylate the PLCγ2 gene in blood vessels, improving the effects of VEGF therapy and significantly enhancing blood flow and wound healing in diabetic patients.

Cancer-related deaths primarily occur due to metastasis, a process involving the migration and invasion of cancer cells. In most solid tumors, metastasis occurs through collective cell migration (CCM), guided by "cellular leaders". These leader cells generate forces through actomyosin-mediated protrusion and contractility.

Am J Obstet Gynecol

January 2025

Hasselt University, Faculty of Medicine and Life Sciences, Agoralaan, 3590 Diepenbeek, Belgium; Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, ZOL Genk, campus St. Jan, Schiepse Bos 6, 3600 Genk, Belgium.

Objective: To investigate the association between functional parameters of the microcirculation and the systemic cardiovascular system in a population of pregnant women at risk for gestational hypertension disorders.

Study Design: For this observational study, women at high cardiovascular risk according to maternal anthropometrics, obstetric and medical history, were recruited at random gestational age depending on time of referral to the outpatient clinic for high risk prenatal care at Ziekenhuis Oost Limburg, Genk Belgium. After birth, data of maternal and neonatal outcome were obtained from the hospital records: only women with normal pregnancy (n = 142) and with preeclampsia (n = 34) were included in this analysis.
