The ubiquitous presence of pharmaceuticals and personal care products (PPCPs) in the environment has become a significant concern due to their persistence, bioaccumulation potential in biota, and diverse implications for human health and wildlife. This review provides an overview of the current state-of-the-art in environmental bioremediation techniques for reducing pharmaceutical residues, with a special emphasis on microbial physiological aspects. Numerous microorganisms, including algae, bacteria or fungi, can biodegrade various pharmaceutical compounds such as antibiotics, analgesics and beta-blockers.

Autophagy is a conservative process of self degradation, in which abnormal organelles, proteins and other macromolecules are encapsulated and transferred to lysosomes for subsequent degradation. It maintains the intracellular balance, and responds to cellular conditions such as hunger or stress. To date, there are mainly three types of autophagy: macroautophagy, microautophagy and chaperone-mediated autophagy.

The quality of Chinese materia medica (CMM) is a challenging and focused topic in the modernization of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). A profound comprehension of the morphology, structure, active constituents, and dynamic changes during the whole process of CMM growth is essential, which needs highly precise contemporary techniques for in-depth elucidation. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a cutting-edge tool integrating the benefits of both nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy and imaging technology.

In this study, a detailed DFT investigation was conducted to systematically analyze the scavenging activity of six hydrazone compounds (1-6) against HOO˙ and CHOO˙ radicals. Three mechanistic pathways were explored: hydrogen atom transfer (HAT), single electron transfer followed by proton transfer (SETPT), and sequential proton loss electron transfer (SPLET). These mechanisms were evaluated based on thermodynamic parameters, including bond dissociation enthalpy (BDE), ionization potential (IP), proton dissociation enthalpy (PDE), proton affinity (PA), and electron transfer enthalpy (ETE) in the gas phase, water, and pentyl ethanoate.

It is believed that inflammation influences several physiological processes, including the function of the central nervous system. Moreover, the impairment of lipid mechanisms/pathways is associated with neurodegenerative disorders and onset of Alzheimer's disease (AD). AD is a chronic neurodegenerative disease representing the major cause of dementia worldwide.
