Multicomponent heterogeneous systems containing volatile amphiphiles are relevant to the fields ranging from drug delivery to atmospheric science. Research presented here discloses the individual interfacial activity and adsorption-evaporation behavior of amphiphilic aroma molecules at the liquid-vapor interface. The surface tension of solutions of nonmicellar volatile surfactants linalool and benzyl acetate, fragrances as such, was compared with that of the conventional surfactant sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) under equilibrium as well as under no instantaneous equilibrium, including a fast-adsorbing regime.

Membrane proteins are important players in signal transduction and the exchange of metabolites within or between cells. Thus, this protein class is the target of around 60 % of currently marketed drugs, emphasizing their essential biological role. Besides functional assays, structural and dynamical investigations on this protein class are crucial to fully understanding their functionality.

Detergents are water-soluble amphiphiles. Above a critical concentration they self-organize in micelles and in the presence of phospholipids mixed micelles are formed. Much information is available on the structure of these self-assemblies and on the thermodynamics of their formation.

Cationic azobenzene-containing surfactants are capable of condensing DNA in solution with formation of nanosized particles that can be employed in gene delivery. The ratio of surfactant/DNA concentration and solution ionic strength determines the result of DNA-surfactant interaction: Complexes with a micelle-like surfactant associates on DNA, which induces DNA shrinkage, DNA precipitation or DNA condensation with the emergence of nanosized particles. UV and fluorescence spectroscopy, low gradient viscometry and flow birefringence methods were employed to investigate DNA-surfactant and surfactant-surfactant interaction at different NaCl concentrations, [NaCl].

The interaction between methylene blue (MB) and sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) has been widely studied spectroscopically, but details about their interactions remain unclear. Here, we combined photoacoustic (PA) imaging with nanoparticle tracking analysis (NTA) and spectroscopy to further elucidate this interaction. PA imaging of 0.
