Mechanistic insight into multiple effects of copper ion on the photoreactivity of dissolved organic matter.

J Hazard Mater

January 2025

Key Laboratory of Industrial Ecology and Environmental Engineering (Ministry of Education), School of Environmental Science and Technology, Dalian University of Technology, Dalian 116024, China.

Sunlight irradiation of dissolved organic matter (DOM) in surface water results in the production of photochemically produced reactive intermediates (PPRIs). This process is inevitably influenced by co-existing metal ions in aquatic environments; However, the underlying mechanism remains unclear. In this study, the effect of co-existing copper ion (Cu) on PPRIs produced by irradiation of DOM was systematically investigated, because Cu is a typical redox transient cation and has strong affinity to DOM.

Background: The role and relevance of macrophages both as causes and therapeutics of cellular senescence is rapidly emerging. However, current knowledge regarding the extent and depth of senescence in macrophages in vivo is limited and controversial. Further, acute models of stress-induced senescence in transformed/cancerous macrophage cell lines are being used although their efficacy and relevance are not characterized.

The electrocatalytic conversion of oxygen to hydrogen peroxide offers a promising pathway for sustainable energy production. However, the development of catalysts that are highly active, stable, and cost-effective for hydrogen peroxide synthesis remains a significant challenge. In this study, a novel polyacid-based metal-organic coordination compound (Cu-PW) was synthesized using a hydrothermal approach.

Antifibrotic potential of Reserpine (alkaloid) targeting Keap1/Nrf2; oxidative stress pathway in CCl-induced liver fibrosis.

Chem Biol Interact

January 2025

Applied and Functional Genomics Lab, Centre of Excellence in Molecular Biology, University of the Punjab, Lahore Pakistan. Electronic address:

The death rate due to liver cancer approaches 2 million annually, the majority is attributed to fibrosis. Currently, there is no efficient, safe, non-toxic, and anti-fibrotic drug available, suggesting room for better drug discovery. The current study aims to evaluate the anti-fibrotic role of reserpine, an alkaloid plant compound against CCl-induced liver fibrosis.

Pollen and Stigma Morphology, Pollen Viability and Stigma Receptivity of Wittmackia Species (Bromeliaceae) by Light, Fluorescence and Scanning Electron Microscopy.

Microsc Res Tech

January 2025

Programa de Pós-graduação Em Recursos Genéticos Vegetais, Universidade Federal Do Recôncavo da Bahia (UFRB), Programa de Pós-graduação Em Recursos Genéticos Vegetais, Cruz das Almas, Bahia, Brazil.

The genus Wittmackia has 44 species distributed in two centers of diversity: the Brazilian clade and the Caribbean clade. The Brazilian clade includes 29 species, with geographic distribution concentrated in the Northeast of Brazil. This study reports the morphology, ultrastructure, pollen viability and stigma receptivity by different microscopy techniques of 23 species of the genus Wittmackia endemic to Brazil and occurring in Atlantic Forest areas.
