The γ-carboxylation of glutamate residues enables Ca-mediated membrane assembly of protein complexes that support broad physiological functions including hemostasis, calcium homeostasis, immune response, and endocrine regulation. Modulating γ-carboxylation level provides prevalent treatments for hemorrhagic and thromboembolic diseases. This unique posttranslational modification requires vitamin K hydroquinone (KH) to drive highly demanding reactions catalyzed by the membrane-integrated γ-carboxylase (VKGC).

We report the synthesis of N-capped peptides under mild conditions using the oxidative aminocarbonylation of aryl iodides and peptide esters as nucleophiles in the solution phase. Ex situ chloroform in chamber A generates CO, which diffuses to chamber B, which contains other reactants. This method offers N-capped peptides at 80 °C for 12 h.

Culturing living cells in three-dimensional environments increases the biological relevance of laboratory experiments, but requires solutes to overcome a diffusion barrier to reach the centre of cellular constructs. We present a theoretical and numerical investigation that brings a mechanistic understanding of how microfluidic culture conditions, including chamber size, inlet fluid velocity and spatial confinement, affect solute distribution within three-dimensional cellular constructs. Contact with the chamber substrate reduces the maximally achievable construct radius by 15%.

Phthalate esters, particularly di(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP), are widely used plasticizers found in various consumer products, posing significant environmental and health risks due to their endocrine-disrupting effects. In this study, a novel enzyme-free intra-capacitive biofuel cell self-powered sensor (ICBFC-SPS) was developed. The ICBFC-SPS integrated a ternary heterostructure-based capacitive anode and a cathode with a sensing interface into a single-chamber electrolytic cell.

The durability of reinforced concrete is associated with several factors that can trigger the corrosion of reinforcement bars. Among these factors, the most significant are chloride-ion attack and carbonation. This study evaluated, through accelerated testing, self-compacting concretes (SCCs) with reduced cement content in binary, ternary, and quaternary mixtures using high-early-strength Portland cement, fly ash (FA), metakaolin (MK), and hydrated lime (HL).
