Modelling the human Coenzyme Q deficiency in Drosophila melanogaster.

Free Radic Biol Med

January 2025

Centro Andaluz de Biología del Desarrollo, Universidad Pablo de Olavide-CSIC-JA, Sevilla, Spain; CIBERER, U729, Instituto de Salud Carlos III, Madrid, Spain. Electronic address:

The interference of the expression of each of the genes involved in the synthesis of coenzyme Q (CoQ) in Drosophila melanogaster can help to understand the pathophysiology of CoQ-dependent mitochondrial diseases in humans. We have knocked-down all genes involved in the CoQ biosynthesis pathway at different temperatures to induce depletion of CoQ at different levels throughout the body and in a tissue-specific manner. The efficiency of the knockdowns was quantified by Q-RTPCR and determination of CoQ levels by HPLC-UV+ECD.

Non-Parametric Estimation for Semi-Competing Risks Data With Event Misascertainment.

Stat Med

February 2025

Department of Biostatistics and Health Data Science, Indiana University, Indianapolis, IN.

The semi-competing risks data model is a special type of disease-state model that focuses on studying the association between an intermediate event and a terminal event and proves to be a useful tool in modeling disease progression. The study of the semi-competing risk data model not only allows us to evaluate whether a disease episode is related to death but also provides a toolkit to predict death, given that the episode occurred at a certain time. However, the computation of the semi-competing risk models is a numerically challenging task.

The Exocyst Subunits EqSec5 and EqSec6 Promote Powdery Mildew Fungus Growth and Pathogenicity.

J Fungi (Basel)

January 2025

Key Laboratory of Green Prevention and Control of Tropical Plant Diseases and Pests, Ministry of Education, School of Tropical Agriculture and Forestry, Haikou 570228, China.

The exocyst complex in eukaryotic cells modulates secretory vesicle transportation to promote exocytosis. The exocyst is also required for the hyphal growth and pathogenic development of several filamentous phytopathogens. Obligate biotrophic powdery mildew fungi cause considerable damage to many cash crops; however, the exocyst's roles in this group of fungi is not well studied.

Empirical Data-Driven Linear Model of a Swimming Robot Using the Complex Delay-Embedding DMD Technique.

Biomimetics (Basel)

January 2025

Group of Biomechatronics, Fachgebiet Biomechatronik, Technische Universität Ilmenau, D-98693 Ilmenau, Germany.

Anguilliform locomotion, an efficient aquatic locomotion mode where the whole body is engaged in fluid-body interaction, contains sophisticated physics. We hypothesized that data-driven modeling techniques may extract models or patterns of the swimmers' dynamics without implicitly measuring the hydrodynamic variables. This work proposes empirical kinematic control and data-driven modeling of a soft swimming robot.

Background: The surgical pathway represents a fundamental process in hospital productivity, and its digitalization is a major focus for hospital management. ASL Roma 1 health authority has taken up this digitalization challenge by introducing an Operation Room Management (ORM) system within the operating block of one of its hospital facilities in 2022.
