Rationale: The analysis of nitrogen isotopes in aqueous dissolved nitrate is an effective method for identifying pollution sources and offers the potential to study the nitrogen cycle. However, the measurement of nitrogen isotope ratios of nitrate still requires extensive sample preparation or derivatization.
Methods: In this study, a modified commercially available liquid chromatography-isotope ratio mass spectrometer (LC-IRMS) interface is presented that enables automated measurement of δN signatures from nitrate by online reduction of nitrate in two consecutive steps.

The ionic exchange membranes represent a core component of redox flow batteries. Their features strongly affect the performance, durability, cost, and efficiency of these energy systems. Herein, the operating conditions of a lab-scale single-cell vanadium flow battery (VRFB) were optimized in terms of membrane physicochemical features and electrolyte composition, as a way to translate such conditions into a large-scale five-cell VRFB stack system.

Porous alkali-activated materials are synthetic aluminosilicates that should be often produced as granules for practical applications. In the present study, municipal solid waste incineration fly ash with ~1.2 wt% of metallic aluminium was used as a novel blowing agent for metakaolin (their ratio ranged from 0% to 100%) with an aqueous sodium silicate solution as the alkali-activator and granulation fluid in high-shear granulation.

Uranium recovery from wastewater or seawater is important for both pollution control and uranium supply. Due to the complexity of the water body, it requires that the adsorbent should not only be highly efficient for selective adsorption but also have good antimicrobial properties. In this study, an antimicrobial thermosensitive hydrogel (UITAC) for uranium adsorption was prepared by one-step ion-imprinted polymerization using chitosan as a substrate and allyl trimethylammonium chloride as the antimicrobial modifier.

Halogenated phenazine meroterpenoids are a structurally unusual family of marine actinobacterial natural products that exhibit antibiotic, antibiofilm, and cytotoxic bioactivities. Despite a lack of established phenazine halogenation biochemistry, genomic analysis of sp. CNZ-289, a prolific lavanducyanin and C2-halogenated derivative producer, suggested the involvement of vanadium-dependent haloperoxidases.
