The actin cytoskeleton regulates danger-associated molecular pattern signaling and PEP1 RECEPTOR1 internalization.

Plant Physiol

January 2025

State Key Laboratory of Tree Genetics and Breeding, College of Biological Sciences and Technology, Beijing Forestry University, Beijing 100083, China.

In plants, cytoskeletal proteins assemble into dynamic polymers that play numerous roles in diverse fundamental cellular processes, including endocytosis, vesicle trafficking, and the spatial distribution of organelles and protein complexes. Plant elicitor peptides (Peps) are damage/danger-associated molecular patterns (DAMPs) that are perceived by the receptor-like kinases PEP RECEPTOR 1 (PEPR1) and PEPR2 to enhance innate immunity and inhibit root growth in Arabidopsis (Arabidopsis thaliana). To date, however, there is little evidence that the actin cytoskeleton of the host cell participates in DAMP-induced innate immunity.

Purpose: Subchondral bone marrow lesions (BMLs) are present in a wide range of pathologies with different prognoses. Thus, a careful diagnosis is mandatory to address them with the proper treatment. The aim of this review was to examine BMLs aetiology and their relationship with biomechanical and biological factors, to identify BMLs and help clinicians to properly recognize and treat each of these common alterations.

NF-B Inhibitory Activity of the Di-Hydroxy Derivative of Piperlongumine (PL-18).

J Immunol Res

January 2025

Department of Microbiology, Immunology and Genetics Faculty of Health Sciences, Ben Gurion University of the Negev, Beer Sheva 84105, Israel.

Inflammation is a critical response of the immune system to infection or injury, serving to repair and restore tissue homeostasis. While acute inflammation generally protects against harmful stimuli, prolonged and chronic inflammation have detrimental effects and disrupts tissue homeostasis. Due to the complex and multifactorial etiology of chronic inflammation, effective treatment remains elusive.

Large-scale and long-term wildlife research and monitoring using camera traps: a continental synthesis.

Biol Rev Camb Philos Soc

January 2025

Wildlife Observatory of Australia (WildObs), Queensland Cyber Infrastructure Foundation (QCIF), Brisbane, Queensland, 4072, Australia.

Camera traps are widely used in wildlife research and monitoring, so it is imperative to understand their strengths, limitations, and potential for increasing impact. We investigated a decade of use of wildlife cameras (2012-2022) with a case study on Australian terrestrial vertebrates using a multifaceted approach. We (i) synthesised information from a literature review; (ii) conducted an online questionnaire of 132 professionals; (iii) hosted an in-person workshop of 28 leading experts representing academia, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), and government; and (iv) mapped camera trap usage based on all sources.

New flow control elements in capillaric circuits are key to achieving ever more complex lab-on-a-chip functionality while maintaining their autonomous and easy-to-use nature. Capillary field effect transistors valves allow for flow in channels to be restricted and cut off utilising a high pressure triggering channel and occluding air bubble. The reversible capillary field effect transistor presented here provides a new element that can restore fluid flow in closed microchannels autonomous circuit feedback.
