Extreme droughts in the Amazon Basin during cyclic ENSO events coupled with Indian Ocean Dipole modes and Tropical North Atlantic warming.

Sci Total Environ

January 2025

Programa de Pós-Graduação em Clima e Ambiente, Instituto Nacional de Pesquisas da Amazônia, Universidade do Estado do Amazonas, Av. André Araújo, 2936, Bairro Aleixo, 69060-001 Manaus, AM, Brazil.

The teleconnections between El Niño-Southern Oscillation (ENSO), the Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD), and Tropical North Atlantic warming (+TNA) play a critical role in characterizing extreme drought events in the Amazon Basin (AB). This study examines the seven most recent drought extreme events up to 2023, using seasonal composites of the sea surface temperature and atmospheric variables over a five-quarter period starting at the austral spring(-1) of the year preceding that when the lowest water level at Manaus port was recorded. Two distinct patterns emerge, driven by consecutive ENSO events with opposite phases, referred to as cyclic La Niña-El Niño and cyclic El Niño-La Niña drought events.

Double left brachiocephalic vein in a paediatric patient with CHD: a case report.

Indian J Thorac Cardiovasc Surg

February 2025

Department of Paediatric Cardiothoracic Surgery, Sri Satya Sai Sanjeevani Centre for Child Heart Care and Training in Pediatric Cardiac Skills, Atal Nagar- Nava Raipur 492101, Chhattisgarh Atal Nagar-Nava Raipur, India.

Anomalous brachiocephalic vein (ABCV) is a rare entity of head and neck venous channel variations and malformations. Amongst the five subtypes of ABVC, double left brachiocephalic vein (DLBCV) is the rarest. We present the case of a 1-year-11-month-old syndromic child, who had global developmental delay (GDD) with Sprengel deformity and failure to thrive (suspected Klippel Feil phenotype), who presented to us for the cardiac evaluation.

Introduction: Neuroinflammation derived from the activation of the microglia is considered a vital pathogenic factor of Alzheimer's Disease (AD). T-006, a tetramethylpyrazine derivative, has been found to alleviate cognitive deficits via inhibiting tau expression and phosphorylation in AD transgenic mouse models. Recently, T-006 has been proven to dramatically decrease the levels of total Amyloid β (Aβ) peptide and Glial Fibrillary Acidic Protein (GFAP) and suppress the expression of ionized calcium binding adaptor molecule-1 (Iba-1) in APP/PS1 mice.

Background: An anomalous left vertebral artery (aLVA) can complicate aortic arch surgery. We examined the safety of various aLVA revascularization strategies during open total arch replacement.

Methods: We retrospectively evaluated 92 patients undergoing total arch replacement from January 2018 to May 2023 and identified 11 patients with aLVA.
