Women and birth partners' experiences of cervical ripening at home and in hospital.

BMC Pregnancy Childbirth

January 2025

Centre for Maternal and Child Health Research, City St George's, University of London, Myddelton Street Building, 1 Myddelton Street, London, EC1R 1UB, United Kingdom.

Background: In the United Kingdom, induction of labour rates are rapidly rising, and around a third of pregnant women undergo the procedure. The first stage, cervical ripening, traditionally carried out in hospital, is increasingly offered outpatient - or 'at home'. The current induction of labour rates place considerable demand on maternity services and impact women's experiences of care, and at home cervical ripening has been suggested as potential solution for alleviating these.

Kidney stones, a common urological disease, may involve the brain-kidney axis in their formation, though the specific mechanism remains unclear. This study aimed to investigate the effects of blue light on relevant metabolic indicators and oxidative stress status in rats with kidney stones through the brain-kidney axis. A rat model of kidney stones was established by administering 1% ethylene glycol and 2% ammonium chloride.

Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide. Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is highly resistant to chemo- or radiation therapy, which poses a huge challenge for treatment of advanced NSCLC. Previously, we demonstrated the oncogenic role of Tudor Staphylococcal nuclease (TSN, also known as Staphylococcal nuclease domain-containing protein 1, SND1), in regulating chemoresistance in NSCLC cells.

Heat stress enhances the expression of METTL3 to mediate N6-methyladenosine modification of SOS2 and NLRP3 inflammasome activation in boar Sertoli cells.

J Hazard Mater

January 2025

Chongqing Key Laboratory of Forage & Herbivore, College of Veterinary Medicine, Southwest University, Beibei, Chongqing 400715, PR China. Electronic address:

Heat stress negatively affects pig production by disrupting the immune homeostasis of Sertoli cells (SCs), which compromises sperm quality, culminating in male infertility. Herein, we aimed to study the mechanism by which the NLRP3 inflammasome is activated by heat stress through N6-methyladenosine (mA) modification regulation in SCs. Initially, it was found that heat stress (44°C, 30 min) markedly activated ERK1/2 signaling, which subsequently promoted NLRP3 inflammasome activation and inflammatory cytokine release from SCs.

Itch is a dominant symptom in dermatitis, and scratching promotes cutaneous inflammation, thereby worsening disease. However, the mechanisms through which scratching exacerbates inflammation and whether scratching provides benefit to the host are largely unknown. We found that scratching was required for skin inflammation in mouse models dependent on FcεRI-mediated mast cell activation.
