Maternal high-fat diet exacerbates atherosclerosis development in offspring through epigenetic memory.

Nat Cardiovasc Res

Maternal exposure to a Western-type diet (WD) increases the susceptibility of adult offspring to atherosclerosis, partly because fetal endothelial cells (ECs) become dysfunctional and inflamed due to risk factors transmitted via maternal-fetal blood exchange. However, the underlying mechanisms remain unclear. Here we show that maternal WD accelerates atherogenesis in adult offspring mice by regulating chromatin dynamics through activator protein-1 (AP-1) in aortic ECs, inducing inflammatory memory at the chromatin level.

Azoheteroarenes-based photoswitches with high bidirectional isomerization and long thermal half-life (t) have attracted widespread attention from researchers. The diversity of molecular scaffolds has a profound impact on photoswitching performance, herein, we incorporated dynamic connection sites and scaffold optimization to construct a series of pyrazolyazoindole/indazoles (PAIs)-based photoswitches with adjustable photoswitching properties and versatile photophysical properties upon the irradiation of special wavelength, among them 4Z-H can be switched between states "lock" and "unlock" by Cu ion and EDTA. Thermal stability of series 3Z and 4Z was more stable than other PAIs photoswitches for their intramolecular forces, while the steric effect weakened the thermal stability of series 5D, these results clarified the relationship between the PAIs scaffolds and their photoswitching properties.

Institute for Nanotechnology and Water Sustainability (iNanoWS), The Science Campus, College of Science, Engineering and Technology (CSET), University of South Africa, Florida Park, Roodepoort, South Africa.

A miniaturised, eco-friendly and efficient multiclass method for the simultaneous determination of 87 veterinary drugs, pesticides and mycotoxin residues in beef muscle samples by ionic liquid-based dispersive liquid-liquid microextraction (IL-DLLME) and liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) was developed and validated according to Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2021/808 and ISO/IEC 17025: 2017. Under IL-DLLME optimum conditions, matrix calibration yielded a coefficient of determination () ranging from 0.99942 to 0.

Magnetic biochar (MBC), as an environmentally friendly material, has been extensively used for the remediation of soil and groundwater contamination. The retention and release of nanoplastics (NPs) with carboxyl (NPs-COOH) or amino functionalization (NPs- NH) in saturated porous media were investigated under varying conditions of ionic strength (IS), MBC addition, humic acid (HA) concentration, and cation types. The reversible and irreversible retention of NPs was examined by altering the IS, increasing the solution pH, and inducing cation exchange.

Grape pomace is a by-product abundant in phenolic compounds that can be used in the food, cosmetic, and pharmaceutical industries. For the efficient extraction of such compounds, an aqueous solution of non-ionic surfactant Brij S20 was applied as a green extraction medium, and the optimization was performed using surface response methodology. The effects of four independent factors (surfactant concentration, time, pH, and solvent-to-material ratio) were evaluated, and total phenolic content (TPC), DPPH radical inhibition, and selected polyphenol compound concentrations were analyzed as responses.
