Introduction: This qualitative research study aimed to better understand and help improve the Canadian context for health communication with intersex adults by centering the voices of those directly involved and impacted.

Methods: We conducted 22 semi-structured interviews with intersex individuals (14) and healthcare practitioners (HCPs, 8) from diverse areas of care. Interviews were analyzed via template thematic analysis and filtered through a conceptual lens that brought together agency-based and social-ecological models of health communication.

Filtering facepiece respirators (FFRs) are manufactured in discrete sizes, with some models being limited in relation to accommodating the fit of some sex and race combinations. This study presents the development of a custom-fit respiratory protective device (RPD) which conforms to a user's facial features and flexes and moves with facial movements during use. Our design also integrates a pressure-sensing network, which continuously monitors fit and will alert the user when the fit is compromised.

Aero-TiO three-dimensional nanoarchitecture for photocatalytic degradation of tetracycline.

Sci Rep

Centre of Advanced Research in Bionanoconjugates and Biopolymers, "Petru Poni" Institute of Macromolecular Chemistry, 41A, Grigore Ghica Voda Alley, 700487, Iasi, Romania.

One of the biggest issues of wide bandgap semiconductor use in photocatalytic wastewater treatment is the reusability of the material and avoiding the contamination of water with the material itself. In this paper, we report on a novel TiO aeromaterial (aero-TiO) consisting of hollow microtetrapods with ZnTiO inclusions. Atomic layer deposition has been used to obtain particles of unique shape allowing them to interlock thereby protecting the photocatalyst from erosion and damage when incorporated in active filters.

Article Synopsis
  • The paper outlines a new method for providing total body irradiation (TBI) that minimizes pulmonary toxicity by using block-filtered 6 MV X-rays from a linear accelerator (LINAC).
  • A special setup using a 2-cm thick block and a large treatment area reduced the dose rate to 10 cGy/min, and a TBI-specific dose calculation model was validated for accurate treatment planning.
  • Results showed high target coverage and safety, with no pulmonary toxicities observed in 30 patients treated over more than two years.

The syconium is the urn-shaped inflorescence shared by all species of the genus Ficus. The orifice at the apex of the syconium is called the ostiole, and it is covered by interlocking bracts. The ostiolar bracts can have different arrangements, which only allow the entry of mutualist wasps and promote reproductive isolation among Ficus species.
