Purpose: To develop a signal processing paradigm for extracting ERG responses to temporal sinusoidal modulation with contrasts ranging from below perceptual threshold to suprathreshold contrasts and estimate the magnitude of intrinsic noise in ERG signals at different stimulus contrasts.

Methods: Photopic test stimuli were generated using a 4-primary Maxwellian view optical system. The 4-primary lights were sinusoidally temporally modulated in-phase (36 Hz; 2.

A haptic contact lens stimulator has been developed to allow monitoring of the visual evoked potential to flash stimulation during orbital surgery. The contact lens stimulator is fitted with a small plastic prism into which a fibre-optic cable is inserted at right angles to the axis of the contact lens. This allows both the stimulator and the fibre-optic to be permanently in place throughout orbital surgery without interfering with the surgeon's vision or dexterity.

A new photostimulator and an infrared videopupillograph are described. The light output from the photostimulator is quantitatively variable, and the beam of light is focused in the plane of the pupil to a spot smaller than the narrowest pupil, thus affording open loop conditions. The videopupillograph gives a direct and continuous measure of the area of the pupil.
