Although numerous studies have shown that grazing gives rise to community succession from the communities or even species perspective, there is a lack of discussion about how grazing drives community assembly based on plant functional traits in a long-term experiment. We find different grazing intensities lead to temporal effects on trait-mediated multidimensional community assembly processes, including community-weighted trait mean (CWM), trait filtering, and trait distribution (divergence/convergence). CWM, trait filtering, and trait distribution of different traits transformed over the 16-year grazing experiment.

Over the past 30 years, researchers have developed X-ray-focusing telescopes by employing the principle of total reflection in thin metal films. The Wolter-I focusing mirror with variable-curvature surfaces demands high precision. However, there has been limited investigation into the removal mechanisms for variable-curvature X-ray mandrels, which are crucial for achieving the desired surface roughness and form accuracy, especially in reducing mid-spatial frequency (MSF) errors.

Fabrication and Coating of Porous Ti6Al4V Structures for Application in PEM Fuel Cell and Electrolyzer Technologies.

Materials (Basel)

December 2024

Department of Material Science and Engineering, Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, IAAB, 28911 Leganés, Madrid, Spain.

The production of green hydrogen through proton exchange membrane water electrolysis (PEMWE) is a promising technology for industry decarbonization, outperforming alkaline water electrolysis (AWE). However, PEMWE requires significant investment, which can be mitigated through material and design advancements. Components like bipolar porous plates (BPPs) and porous transport films (PTFs) contribute substantially to costs and performance.

Contributions to More Sustainable and Climate-Resilient Cattle Production: Study of Performance of Galloway and Highland Breeds in Transylvania, Romania.

Animals (Basel)

December 2024

Department of Environmental Protection and Engineering, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Medicine, Calea Mănăştur 3-5, 400372 Cluj-Napoca, Romania.

Sustainable and climate-resilient livestock systems are increasingly necessary to balance food production demands with environmental conservation. Breeds such as Galloway (Ga) and Highland (Hi) cattle are recognized for their adaptability to extensive grazing systems, low input requirements, and ability to thrive on marginal lands. Despite their potential, research on the performance of Ga and Hi cattle in low-resource, extensive grazing systems, particularly in Romania, remains scarce.

Effects of Concentrate Feed Starch Source Offered Twice a Day on Feed Intake and Milk Production of Cows During the Early Postpartum Period.

Animals (Basel)

December 2024

Agriculture Victoria Research, Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action, Ellinbank, Victoria 3821, Australia.

This experiment determined the effects of two different starch sources when offered twice a day to cows during the early postpartum period (1 to 23 d postpartum, treatment period) on dry matter intake (DMI), feeding behavior, and milk production. The subsequent effects on milk production in the carryover period (24 to 72 d) where cows received a common diet (grazed perennial ryegrass pasture plus concentrate supplements) were also measured. Thirty-two multiparous dairy cows were offered concentrate feed (8 kg DM/d) containing 5 kg DM of crushed wheat grain or ground corn grain (7 h in vitro starch digestibility of 65.
