Adipokines in Breast Cancer: Decoding Genetic and Proteomic Mechanisms Underlying Migration, Invasion, and Proliferation.

Breast Cancer (Dove Med Press)

January 2025

Clinic for Plastic, Aesthetic and Reconstructive Surgery, Spine, Orthopedic and Hand Surgery, Preventive Medicine - ETHIANUM, Heidelberg, 69115, Germany.

Background: Adipokines, bioactive peptides secreted by adipose tissue, appear to contribute to breast cancer development and progression. While numerous studies suggest their role in promoting tumor growth, the exact mechanisms of their involvement are not yet completely understood.

Methods: In this project, varying concentrations of recombinant human adipokines (Leptin, Lipocalin-2, PAI-1, and Resistin) were used to study their effects on four selected breast cancer cell lines (EVSA-T, MCF-7, MDA-MB-231, and SK-Br-3).

Levilactobacillus brevis YT108, identified for its ability to metabolize prebiotic xylo-oligosaccharides (XOS), emerges as a candidate for probiotic use in synbiotic food formulations. This study aimed to investigate the metabolic and genomic traits associated with XOS metabolism in YT108 and to assess its probiotic attributes through whole genome sequencing and in vitro assays. Strain YT108 exhibited robust growth kinetics on XOS as the sole carbon source, with a growth profile comparable to that on glucose, achieving a pH reduction to 4.

Interfacial sorption of 17β-E2 on nano-microplastics: effects of particle size, functional groups and hydrochemical conditions.

Environ Res

January 2025

Key Laboratory of Regional Environment and Eco-restoration, Ministry of Education, Shenyang University, Shenyang, 110044, Liaoning, China. Electronic address:

Nano-microplastics and 17β-E2 have been frequently detected as emerging high-concern pollutants in aquatic systems, and their interaction at the solid/liquid interface has become a research focus in environmental studies. The interfacial sorption kinetics and equilibrium characteristics of 17β-estradiol (17β-E2) on nano-polystyrene (Nano-PS) with different particle sizes and organic functional group modifications were systematically investigated in aqueous environments in this study. The interfacial interaction mechanism between Nano-PS particles and 17β-E2 was elucidated by utilizing SEM, FTIR, XPS and BET techniques.

Impact of different foot orthoses on gait biomechanics in individuals with chronic metatarsalgia.

Gait Posture

January 2025

Groupe de Recherche sur les Affections Neuromusculosquelettiques, Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières, Canada; Department of Human Kinetics, Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières, Canada; Center for Interdisciplinary Research in Rehabilitation and Social Integration (Cirris), Quebec, QC, Canada.

Background: Foot orthoses (FOs) are commonly prescribed to reduce pain and improve function in individuals with musculoskeletal disorders, including those with chronic metatarsalgia (CM). Reducing the mechanical overload under the metatarsal heads during locomotion is the central point of the treatment for CM. Medially wedged FOs (MWFOs) with a metatarsal pad could further reduce pressure loading under the metatarsal heads and modify foot and ankle biomechanics compared to standard FOs (SFOs).

P-band center modulated and heterostructure stabilized 1T-MoS as bidirectional electrocatalyst for Lithium-Sulfur batteries.

J Colloid Interface Sci

January 2025

School of Materials Science and Engineering, Xiangtan University, Xiangtan 411105, China. Electronic address:

Lithium-sulfur batteries (LSBs) are considered as the most potential next-generation rechargeable energy storage devices due to their high theoretical energy density. However, the commercialization is severely hampered by the shuttle effect and sluggish sulfur redox kinetics of sulfur cathodes. Herein, we propose MoS/CN heterostructures as potential cathodes for LSBs.
