The brain presents various structural and functional sex differences, for which multiple factors are attributed: genetic, epigenetic, metabolic, and hormonal. While biological sex is determined by both sex chromosomes and sex hormones, little is known about how these two factors interact to establish this dimorphism. Sex differences in the brain also affect its resident immune cells, microglia, which actively survey the brain parenchyma and interact with sex hormones throughout life.

An unprecedented global outbreak caused by the monkeypox virus (MPXV) prompted the World Health Organization to declare a public health emergency of international concern on July 23, 2022. Therapeutics and vaccines for MPXV are not widely available, necessitating further studies, particularly in drug repurposing area. To this end, the standardization of in vitro infection systems is essential.

The success of pollen-pistil interaction in Mauritia flexuosa (buriti), a palm adapted to the humid ecosystems, 'veredas', within the Cerrado, is influenced by intrinsic and environmental factors. Its supra-annual flowering, dioecy, and adverse climate conditions pose challenges for fertilization, therefore information on floral biology is essential. This study aimed to ascertain stigma receptivity, and elucidate structural, cytochemical, and ultrastructural aspects of the pollen-pistil relationship.

Obscurin is a giant protein that coordinates diverse aspects of striated muscle physiology. Obscurin immunoglobulin domains 58/59 (Ig58/59) associate with essential sarcomeric and Ca2+ cycling proteins. To explore the pathophysiological significance of Ig58/59, we generated the Obscn-ΔIg58/59 mouse model, expressing obscurin constitutively lacking Ig58/59.

The nucleus serves as a pivotal regulatory and control hub in the cell, governing numerous aspects of cellular functions, including DNA replication, transcription, and RNA processing. Therefore, any deviations in nuclear morphology, structure, or organization can strongly affect cellular activities. In this review, we provide an updated perspective on the structure and function of nuclear components, focusing on the linker of nucleoskeleton and cytoskeleton complex, the nuclear envelope, the nuclear lamina, and chromatin.
