The paraventricular thalamus (PVT) is a central node in the integration of stress- and reward-related information that may serve as a pivotal site for opioid receptors to exert their effects. Kappa opioid receptors (KOPrs) and mu opioid receptors (MOPrs) have dissociable and opposing roles in circuits of stress and reward. Interestingly, both are highly expressed in the PVT, however it is not known how aversive KOPr and rewarding MOPr signalling converges to dictate PVT activity and, by proxy, whole brain effects.

Ethnopharmacological Relevance: Parkinson's disease (PD) is one of the most common neurodegenerative disorders, yet effective therapeutic options remain limited. Dendrobium huoshanense (DH), a medicinal and edible herb mainly distributed in Ta-pieh Mountains of Central China, has been used to treat disorders of consciousness and chronic nervous diseases in the local hospital for thousands of years. Erianin, a bioactive bibenzyl compound isolated from DH, has emerged as a potential neuroprotective agent due to its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.

Background: The occurrence of pain catastrophizing, depression, and anxiety is prevalent among patients undergoing primary total hip arthroplasty (THA). The Enhanced Recovery After Surgery protocol (ERAS-P) has demonstrated its efficacy in alleviating peri-operative stress responses in such patients. This study endeavors to explore the influence of ERAS-P on patient satisfaction, as well as the levels of pain catastrophizing, surgery-related anxiety, and depression following primary THA.

Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) are associated with tumorigenesis and progression. One of these, short nucleolar RNA host gene 14 (SNHG14), has exhibited significant prognostic value due to its aberrant expression across various tumor types. This study investigates the expression patterns, survival outcomes, and tumor stages associated with SNHG14 across various cancers, employing data from the Genotype-Tissue Expression and The Cancer Genome Atlas databases.
