Rheological Properties of Emulsions Stabilized by Cellulose Derivatives with the Addition of Ethyl Alcohol.

Materials (Basel)

December 2024

Division of Chemical Engineering and Equipment, Faculty of Chemical Technology, Poznan University of Technology, ul. Berdychowo 4, 60-965 Poznan, Poland.

The paper presents the results of research on the rheological properties and stability of oil-in-water emulsions containing cellulose derivatives: methylcellulose, hydroxyethylcellulose, and hydroxypropylmethylcellulose. The continuous phase of the emulsion was a 70% ethanol (EtOH) solution by volume. The dispersed phase consisted of mineral, linseed, and canola oils (20% by volume).

Additives in Supplements for Grazing Beef Cattle.

Animals (Basel)

December 2024

Núcleo de Estudos em Pecuária Intensiva-NEPI, Universidade Federal de Mato Grosso, Campus Universitário de Sinop, Sinop 78557-267, Brazil.

Pasture-based beef cattle production systems aim to maximize the interaction between forage and supplements to increase activity. In addition, supplementation and the use of food additives help optimize production efficiency and improve the use of additional nutrients. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of the use of additives in protein-energy supplements (PESs) on the intake, digestibility, and ruminal parameters of beef cattle raised on pasture in the rearing phase.

Article Synopsis
  • The pore structure of shale significantly influences shale gas occurrence and flow, and fractal dimensions can quantitatively describe this complexity.
  • The study focused on the Leping Formation shale in the southern Sichuan Basin, utilizing techniques like low-pressure CO adsorption and low-temperature N adsorption to analyze pore characteristics and geochemistry.
  • Results showed high total organic carbon (TOC) content (average 2.25%), with varying quartz and clay mineral contents, revealing a complex pore system dominated by mesopores and a multimodal pore size distribution, indicating significant structural complexity.

Two large-scale, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trials-REDUCE-IT and STRENGTH-have garnered significant attention in cardiovascular medicine. Both trials aimed to evaluate the effects of prolonged administration of nutritional lipids, specifically omega-3 fatty acids, on major adverse cardiovascular events (MACEs) in high-risk patients undergoing statin therapy. REDUCE-IT used eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) ethyl ester with mineral oil as a control, while STRENGTH utilized a carboxylic acid formulation of both EPA and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) with corn oil as a control.

In this study, the role of roasting on the total phenol, antioxidant capacity, phenolic constituents and fatty acid profile of the grape seeds was investigated. Total phenolic and flavonoid quantities of the grape seeds roasted in microwave (MW) and conventional oven (CO) systems were recorded between 673.57 (control) and 713.
