In Situ Polymerization and Synthesis of UHMWPE/Carbon Fiber Composites.

Polymers (Basel)

January 2025

Institute for Technical and Macromolecular Chemistry, University of Hamburg, Bundesstraße 45, 20146 Hamburg, Germany.

Carbon-fiber-reinforced composites of ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) are not easily prepared because of their high viscosity, although they can be advantageous in advanced engineering applications due to their superior mechanical properties in combination with their low specific weight and versatility. Short polyacrylonitrile-based carbon-fiber-reinforced UHMWPE composites with fiber contents of 5, 10, and 15 wt.% could easily be prepared using in situ ethylene polymerization.

Molecular Design and Mechanism Study of Non-Activated Collectors for Sphalerite (ZnS) Based on Coordination Chemistry Theory and Quantum Chemical Simulation.

Molecules

December 2024

School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, School of Resources, Environment and Materials, Guangxi University, Nanning 530004, China.

Sphalerite flotation is generally achieved by copper activation followed by xanthate collection. This study aims to propose a design idea to find novel collectors from the perspective of molecular design and prove the theoretical feasibility that the collector can effectively recover sphalerite without copper activation. To address this, 30 compounds containing different structures of sulfur atoms and different neighboring atoms were designed based on coordination chemistry.

Preparation and Properties of Sulfur-Modified Alite Calcium Sulfoaluminate Cement.

Materials (Basel)

December 2024

State Key Laboratory of Materials-Oriented Chemical Engineering, College of Materials Science and Engineering, Nanjing Tech University, Nanjing 210009, China.

Alite calcium sulfoaluminate (ACSA) cement is an innovative and environmentally friendly cement compared to ordinary Portland cement (OPC). The synthesis and hydration of ACSA clinkers doped with gradient sulfur were investigated. The clinker compositions and hydrated pastes were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), isothermal calorimetry, mercury intrusion porosimetry (MIP), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) to analyze its mineral contents, hydration products, heat release, pore structure, and microstructure.
