Evaluation of anti-Pertussis antibody levels in Iranian infants and children: Is it time to include booster acellular Pertussis Vaccines in the immunization schedule?

Vaccine

January 2025

Pediatric Infectious Disease Research Center, Tehran University of Medical Sciences, Tehran, Iran; Department of Infectious Diseases, Pediatrics Center of Excellence, Children's Medical Center, Tehran University of Medical Sciences, Tehran, Iran. Electronic address:

Introduction: The prevalence of anti-pertussis antibodies among infants and children in Iran has not been thoroughly investigated. Given that recommendations for booster vaccines are based on national disease epidemiology, we aimed to evaluate the seroprevalence of pertussis antibodies among infants and children in an Iranian referral hospital.

Materials And Methods: A total of 1012 infants and children were included in the study.

Introduction/aims: VAChT-Cre is a transgenic mouse line targeting slow-twitch fatigue-resistant and fast-twitch fatigue-resistant motor neurons that innervate oxidative type I and type IIa muscle fibers. To ablate these neurons, VAChT-Cre mice were crossbred with NSE-DTA mice, leading to the expression of diphtheria toxin A after Cre-mediated excision. The resulting VAChT-Cre;NSE-DTA mice exhibited motor deficits, abnormal locomotion, muscular atrophy, and tremor, making them a useful model for studying motor neuron physiology and pathology.

Objective: Neuronal cell death and neuroinflammation are characteristic features of epilepsy, but it remains unclear whether neuronal cell death as such is causative for the development of epileptic seizures. To test this hypothesis, we established a novel mouse line permitting inducible ablation of pyramidal neurons by inserting simian diphtheria toxin (DT) receptor (DTR) cDNA into the Ccl17 locus. The chemokine CCL17 is expressed in pyramidal CA1 neurons in adult mice controlling microglial quiescence.

Comprehensive prenatal care incorporates recommended vaccines to help protect the mother, the pregnancy, and the infant from adverse health outcomes and severe illness from vaccine preventable diseases (VPDs). However, vaccinations during pregnancy remain underutilized, often influenced by concerns about vaccine safety and low perception of disease risk. Self-reported vaccine hesitancy among pregnant people in the United States has significantly increased in the last few years, and influenza and Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis) vaccination rates have declined.

The aim of this study was to analyze the incidence and characteristics of adverse events following immunization (AEFI) with post-licensure vaccines used in Hebei province from 2018 to 2020 and to evaluate the safety of vaccines. All information of AEFI was gained from national adverse event following immunization surveillance system (NAEFISS) in Hebei Province from 2018 to 2020. Descriptive epidemiology method was used to analyze the data about AEFI in Hebei province.
