Introduction: Klinefelter syndrome (KS) is a genetic condition characterised by the presence of an extra X chromosome in males (47,XXY). KS is associated with various phenotypic characteristics in adult life, including infertility, hypogonadism and increased risk of type II diabetes, cardiovascular disease and osteoporosis. Additionally, individuals with KS often experience mental health challenges and functional impairments that significantly impact their quality of life.

Laboratory of Pharmaceutical, Chemical and Pharmacological Drug Development LR12ES09, Faculty of Pharmacy, Université de Monastir, Monastir, Tunisia.

Fucoidans, a complex water-soluble sulfated polysaccharide is regarded as a valuable source of new drug development. The aim of this study was to characterize the chemical properties of fucoidans isolated from two brown algae Dyctyopteris membranaceae and Padina pavonica and to evaluate their anti-inflammatory, gastroprotective, antioxidant and immunomodulatory activities. The characterization of fucoidans was investigated with colorimetric techniques and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy.

Prostaglandin E2 alleviates inflammatory response and lung injury through EP4/cAMP/IKK/NF-κB pathway.

Biochim Biophys Acta Mol Basis Dis

March 2025

Affiliated Yueqing Hospital, Wenzhou Medical University, Wenzhou, Zhejiang 325600, China. Electronic address:

Purpose: Prostaglandin E2 (PGE2), a pivotal lipid metabolite, plays a dual role in inflammation, manifesting both pro-inflammatory and anti-inflammatory effects, which are significantly influenced by the cellular microenvironment and receptor subtype. Although recent studies have highlighted the anti-inflammatory potential of PGE2, its role in toll-like receptor (TLR)-associated inflammation and the underlying mechanisms have not fully elucidated. Consequently, the primary aim of this study was to assess the anti-inflammatory efficacy of PGE2 in TLR-related inflammation and to elucidate the associated mechanisms.

Voltage-gated sodium (Nav) channels are critical for electrical signaling, and their pharmacological modulation can be leveraged for the development of therapeutic agents targeting various disorders. The local anesthetic (LA) site on Nav channels is particularly important, as it is a common target for many clinically used inhibitors, including anticonvulsants and antiarrhythmics. Our goal was to identify novel Nav channel inhibitors by leveraging physicochemical criteria, focusing on potential LA site binding candidates.

Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is a chronic and progressive age-related lung disease with an average survival of 3-5 years post-diagnosis if left untreated. It is characterized by lung fibrosis, inflammation, and destruction of lung architecture, leading to worsening respiratory symptoms and physiological impairment, ultimately culminating in progressive respiratory failure. The development of novel therapeutics for the treatment of IPF represents a significant unmet medical need.
