In this study, a bis-indole compound was synthesized, characterized by 1H NMR, Fourier transform infrared, and mass spectroscopic measurements and used as a selective and efficient probe for the spectrofluorimetric analysis of Co (II). The cobalt-induced quenching in the emission maximum at 567 nm was considered as the analytical signal in calibration studies. When encapsulated in a polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) matrix, the bis-indole compound exhibited a limit of detection (LOD) of 3.

A novel bacterium designated 5-21a, isolated from chitin-treated upland soil, exhibits methionine (Met) auxotrophy and chitinolytic activity. A physiological experiment revealed the cobalamin (synonym, vitamin B)(Cbl)-auxotrophic property of strain 5-21a. The newly determined complete genomic sequence indicated that strain 5-21a possesses only the putative gene for Cbl-dependent Met synthase (MetH) and lacks that for the Cbl-independent one (MetE), which implies the requirement of Cbl for Met-synthesis in strain 5-21a.

A CEW's long distance method of deployment launches two barbed probes that embed into the target, before electricity is cycled from one probe to the other. The resulting muscle contractions help incapacitate the intended target.

The cellular prion protein (PrP) has a C-terminal globular domain and a disordered N-terminal region encompassing five octarepeats (ORs). Encounters between Cu(II) ions and four OR sites produce interchangeable binding geometries; however, the significance of Cu(II) binding to ORs in different combinations is unclear. To understand the impact of specific binding geometries, OR variants were designed that interact with multiple or single Cu(II) ions in specific locked coordinations.

Introduced less than two decades ago, glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists rapidly reshaped the field of Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) care by providing glycaemic control in tandem with weight loss. However, FDA-approved GLP-1 receptor agonists are often accompanied by nausea and emesis and, in some lean T2DM patients, by undesired anorexia. Importantly, the hypophagic and emetic effects of GLP-1 receptor agonists are caused by activation of central GLP-1 receptors.
