PIF/harbinger transposon-derived protein promotes 7SL expression to enhance pathogen resistance.

Transcriptional regulation governs gene expression levels, primarily controlled by "cis-acting DNA elements" and "trans-acting protein factors". However, the conventional view that cis-regulation is solely attributable to DNA elements is challenged in this study. Our research indicates that transposon-derived proteins may retain their original DNA-binding preference and exert cis-regulatory effects on nearby genes on the chromosome, thus denoted as "cis-acting factors".

The tiller angle, one of the critical factors that determine the rice plant type, is closely related to rice yield. An appropriate rice tiller angle can improve rice photosynthetic efficiency and increase yields. In this study, we identified a transcription factor, TILLRE ANGLE CONTROL 8 (TAC8), that is highly expressed in the rice tiller base and positively regulates the tiller angle by regulating cell length and endogenous auxin content; TAC8 encodes a TEOSINTE BRANCHED1/CYCLOIDEA/PCF transcriptional activator that is highly expressed in the nucleus.

Isoform-level expression of the constitutive androstane receptor (CAR or NR1I3) transcription factor better predicts the mRNA expression of the cytochrome P450s in human liver samples.

Drug Metab Dispos

Department of Pharmacotherapy and Translational Research, College of Pharmacy, Center for Pharmacogenomics and Precision Medicine, University of Florida, Gainesville, Florida. Electronic address:

Many factors cause interperson variability in the activity and expression of the cytochrome P450 (CYP) drug-metabolizing enzymes in the liver, leading to variable drug exposure and treatment outcomes. Several liver-enriched transcription factors are associated with CYP expression, with estrogen receptor α (ESR1) and constitutive androstane receptor (CAR or NR1I3) being the 2 top factors. ESR1 and NR1I3 undergo extensive alternative splicing that results in numerous splice isoforms, but how these splice isoforms associate with CYP expression is unknown.

Diabetes mellitus is a global disease that results in various complications, including diabetic osteoporosis. Prior studies have indicated a correlation between low levels of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD) and diabetes-related complications. Nicotinamide riboside (NR), a widely utilized precursor vitamin of NAD, has been demonstrated to enhance age-related osteoporosis through the Sirt1/FOXO/β-catenin pathway in osteoblast progenitors.

sp. nov., a new hyphomycete from desertified rocky soil in southwest China.

Two strains of , identified based on morphology and phylogenetic analysis, were isolated from rocky desertification soils in Yunnan province. Phylogenetic analyses inferred from three loci (the internal transcribed spacer of the nuclear ribosomal RNA gene, β-tubulin and RNA polymerase II second-largest subunit) showed that the two strains formed a single clade and were introduced as a new species of , is characterized by having ampulliform or broadly fusiform conidiogenous cells and dark olivaceous-green, oblong-ellipsoidal conidia. Phylogenetically, is most closely related to , but it distinguishes the latter by longer and narrower conidia.
