Jaw vs abdominal Burkitt's lymphoma: An analysis of 25 Iraqi cases.

Objectives: This study compared the clinicopathological, immunohistochemical characteristics and Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) detection of Burkitt's lymphoma (BL) in the abdomen and jaw of Iraqi patients.
Methods: A cohort/retrospective study was carried out between August and September 2024 using 25 tissue blocks (14 gnathic and 11 abdominal BL) from the Oral and Maxillofacial Laboratory, University of Baghdad, College of Dentistry, and the National Centre for Educational Laboratories. The sections were stained with haematoxylin and eosin (H&E), while CD10, CD20, Bcl-2, BCl-6, C-Myc and Ki-67 markers were used for diagnosis.

Background: Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma is the most common subtype of non-Hodgkin lymphomas that remains a major diagnostic challenge due to the variety of its clinical presentations. This case highlights the importance of early biopsy of oral lesions without tendency to heal to attain the diagnosis more quickly. To the best of our knowledge, this study is the first to focus on both oral and pulmonary involvements in a patient with diffuse large B-cell lymphoma.

A 47-year-old male with an unremarkable medical history was referred for atypical endodontic pain and treatment of his left upper molars. Clinical and radiographic examinations revealed an extensive, undefined osteolytic area around these teeth. A subsequent bone biopsy diagnosed diffuse large B-cell lymphoma, a high-grade non-Hodgkin's lymphoma.
