Purpose: To summarize the available information from mythology, archeology, and classical literature aiming to compose the image of Asclepieia, Asclepius, and the Asclepiads, and to depict the atmosphere of medicine in its infancy.
Method: A thorough literature search was undertaken in PubMed and Google Scholar as well as in physical books in libraries to summarize the pharmacies and pain practices used for trauma in ancient Greece.
Results: The antiquity of medicine is confirmed by the worship of God Apollo and Asclepius, who were the persons who possessed the knowledge of medicine and surgery, and delivered it to mortals.

The present notion - tracheotomy, originates from the Latin words trachea - windpipe, which comes from the combination of Latin "tracheia" and Greek "arteria" indicating an uneven road, and "tome" - cut. Procedures of pharyngotomy have a long-lasting history. First similar operations were found on the ancient Egyptian clay tablets dating back to 3600 BC.

Background: The negative impact of the mass media, the lack of information, and the request for in-depth knowledge are the basis for the present need for educational programs on transplantation, brain death, and chronic kidney diseases end-stage renal disease; (ESRD). The aim of the present article was to critically review the activities performed by Il Gallo di Esculapio, a nonprofit association, in the education on the different phases of ESRD. The associates are physicians and patients, and the activities are integrated institutionally.

The Hippocratic Oath is twenty-five centuries old. Probably drawn-up by Hippocrates himself, it intervenes in a particular cultural, political and religious context: that of Greece at the time of Pericles.
