Background: This video article describes the use of bone-anchored prostheses for patients with transtibial amputations, most often resulting from trauma, infection, or dysvascular disease. Large studies have shown that about half of all patients with a socket-suspended artificial limb experience limited mobility and limited prosthesis use because of socket-related problems. These problems occur at the socket-residual limb interface as a result of a painful and unstable connection, leading to an asymmetrical gait and subsequent pelvic and back pain.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is rapidly transforming healthcare, particularly in orthopedics, by enhancing diagnostic accuracy, surgical planning, and personalized treatment. This review explores current applications of AI in orthopedics, focusing on its contributions to diagnostics and surgical procedures. Key methodologies such as artificial neural networks (ANNs), convolutional neural networks (CNNs), support vector machines (SVMs), and ensemble learning have significantly improved diagnostic precision and patient care.

Cross intrinsic transfer for ulnar drift in the rheumatoid hand under wide awake local anesthesia No tourniquet - Surgical technique.

J Hand Microsurg

January 2025

Department of Orthopedics, Hand, and Reconstructive Microsurgery, Olympia Hospital & Research Centre, 47, 47A Puthur High Road, Puthur, Trichy, Tamilnadu, India, 620017.

This article introduces a surgical technique for cross-intrinsic transfers (CIT) to correct ulnar drift in rheumatoid hands performed under wide-awake local anesthesia no tourniquet (WALANT). This approach allows real-time adjustment of tendon transfer tension and active patient participation in hand movements and deformity correction during the procedure. It can be combined with other surgeries such as prosthetic replacement arthroplasties of the MCP joints.

Objective: This case report presents the interdisciplinary retreatment of a patient with a worn full-mouth rehabilitation using defect-oriented restorations, horizontal preparations, and vertical dimension of occlusion (VDO) increase.

Clinical Considerations: A 58-year-old woman with a previous full-mouth rehabilitation presented with worn dentition, loss of VDO, and reduced posterior support. Examination revealed signs of parafunctional habits, tetracycline-stained teeth, and compromised aesthetics with exposed discolored teeth and open embrasure spaces.

Background: While prosthesis-associated malignancies have been acknowledged, awareness among surgeons and patients in the ophthalmologic field remains limited, despite the frequent occurrence of prosthesis-related surgeries. We aim to address this gap through a scoping review of malignancies following ophthalmologic surgeries involving various foreign device/prosthesis/implants.

Methods: Following PRISMA guidelines, we conducted a review using PubMed and Embase for studies on cancer and ophthalmic prostheses/implants.
