Advanced spectroscopic evidence for the sequestration of heavy metals via repetitive in situ synthesis of Fe oxide.

J Hazard Mater

January 2025

Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Seoul National University, 1 Gwanak-ro, Gwanak-gu, Seoul 08826, Republic of Korea. Electronic address:

The in situ synthesis of Fe oxide is an established method for stabilizing metals and metalloids (Me) in contaminated soils. Nevertheless, the potential for enhanced Me sequestration through repeated Fe oxide application and the fundamental mechanisms of this process yet to be systemically investigated. In this study, the means by which repetitive Fe oxide synthesis enhances the immobilization of Cd, Zn, and As was investigated using batch experiments.

Pathogenic mechanisms of immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICI)-associated retinal and choroidal adverse reactions.

Am J Ophthalmol

January 2025

Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences, Kellogg Eye Center, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, MI. Electronic address:

Purpose: To summarize and categorize postulated mechanisms of immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICI)-mediated retinal and choroidal inflammation and discuss resulting implications for evaluation and management of these adverse reactions.

Design: Targeted literature review with interpretation and perspective Methods: We performed a review of selected literature describing immune-mediated retinal and choroidal adverse reactions associated with ICI therapy, synthesizing and categorizing the likely underlying pathogenic mechanisms. Based on these mechanistic categories, we provide perspective on a rational approach to the evaluation of patients with ICI-associated inflammatory disorders of the retina and choroid.

Various specific and nonspecific dermatologic abnormalities are observed in chronic kidney disease (CKD). Dermatologic manifestations are observed at all stages of CKD and these increase with increasing duration and severity of the renal disease. Most of the studies in the literature have focussed mainly on dermatologic manifestations associated with dialysis and end-stage renal disease.

Swedish Winter Sports Research Centre, Department of Health Sciences, Mid Sweden University, Östersund, Sweden.

Background: The Covid-19 pandemic in 2020 led to disruption of sporting events, with athletes obliged to comply with national lockdown restrictions.

Purpose: To investigate the effect of the Covid-19 pandemic restrictions on national-team XC skiers' annual and weekly training distribution from training diaries, results from submaximal and maximal physiological roller ski tests, and competition results from the International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) world cup.

Methods: Annual and weekly training type (specific, non-specific, strength, other) and intensity distribution (TID) data were collected for 12 German XC-skiers (Tier 4/5; BM: 67 ± 7 kg; age 26 ± 3 years; 6♀: V̇O 61.
