The n.m.r. spectrum of N-methyl formamide oriented in a lyotropic liquid crystal solvent shows the presence of the cis as well as the trans forms. Analysis of the spectra due to both the species has been carried out. Possible non-planar distortions at the nitrogen atom for the trans species have been computed using the derived dipolar couplings and the available structural data.

5-Hydroxymethylfurfural (5-HMF) is an important chemical generated from lignocellulosic biomass (LCB) to produce a wide variety of value-added chemicals, biofuels, and biochemicals. Different forms of ionic liquids (ILs) have been utilized for the formation of 5-HMF from LCB. However, 5-HMF is highly soluble in imidazolium-based ionic liquids (IMILs), which makes it difficult to separate after its formation from LCB.

N-methyl Formamide Electrolyte Additive Enabling Highly Reversible Zn Anodes.

September 2024

National Synchrotron Radiation Laboratory, Key Laboratory of Precision and Intelligent Chemistry, School of Nuclear Science and Technology, University of Science and Technology of China, Hefei, Anhui, 230029, P. R. China.

Parasitic side reactions and dendrites formation hinder the application of aqueous zinc ion batteries due to inferior cycling life and low reversibility. Against this background, N-methyl formamide (NMF), a multi-function electrolyte additive is applied to enhance the electrochemical performance. Studied via advanced synchrotron radiation spectroscopy and DFT calculations, the NMF additive simultaneously modifies the Zn solvation structure and ensures uniform zinc deposition, thus suppressing both parasitic side reactions and dendrite formation.

Article Synopsis
  • * Researchers tested a green-synthesized aluminum-based metal-organic framework (CAU-10pydc) as a catalyst for the CO formylation reaction, which converts CO and -methylaniline into a formamide compound, showing effectiveness at room temperature and with mild conditions.
  • * CAU-10pydc maintained its catalytic performance over five cycles and showed stability via PXRD and SEM measurements, and its effectiveness was demonstrated with nine different substrates, marking a novel contribution to CO formylation reactions using Al-MOFs under eco-friendly conditions.

Rechargeable Zinc batteries (RZBs) are considered a potent competitor for next-generation electrochemical devices, due to their multiple advantages. Nevertheless, traditional aqueous electrolytes may cause serious hazards to long-term battery cycling through fast capacity fading and poor Coulombic efficiency (CE), which happens due to complex reaction kinetics in aqueous systems. Herein, we proposed the novel adoption of the protic amide solvent, N-methyl formamide (NMF) as a Zinc battery electrolyte, which possesses a high dielectric constant and high flash point to promote fast kinetics and battery safety simultaneously.

Over the last two years, global regulatory authorities have raised safety concerns on nitrosamine contamination in several drug classes, including angiotensin II receptor antagonists, histamine-2 receptor antagonists, antimicrobial agents, and antidiabetic drugs. To avoid carcinogenic and mutagenic effects in patients relying on these medications, authorities have established specific guidelines in risk assessment scenarios and proposed control limits for nitrosamine impurities in pharmaceuticals. In this review, nitrosation pathways and possible root causes of nitrosamine formation in pharmaceuticals are discussed.
