Of 398 strains of clinically isolated Escherichia coli from three Birmingham, Alabama, hospitals, 38% were found to be resistant to one or more drugs tested. Fifty-seven per cent of the resistant strains transferred all or a part of their resistance pattern to sensitive cells during mixed cultivation. Of the 152 resistant strains, 29.1% were singly resistant, and 70.5% were resistant to more than one drug. Of the multiply resistant strains, 61% transferred all or a part of their pattern. Strains isolated from Veterans Hospital patients demonstrated higher percentages of resistance than strains isolated from Children's Hospital patients. An extremely low incidence of infective drug resistance was noted among E. coli isolated from the stools of healthy hospital employees.

Water systems can act as an important reservoir for Pseudomonas aeruginosa, which can pose public health risks during human contact. Carbapenem resistance is one of the most concerning resistances in P. aeruginosa making it a high-priority pathogen according to the World Health Organization (WHO), due to its ability to cause difficult-to-treat infections.

High expression of drug efflux pump makes antibiotics ineffective against bacteria, leading to drug-resistant strains and even the emergence of "superbugs". Herein, we design and synthesize a dual functional o-nitrobenzene (NB)-modified conjugated oligo-polyfluorene vinylene (OPFV) photosensitizer, OPFV-NB, which can depress efflux pump activity and also possesses photodynamic therapy (PDT) for synergistically overcoming drug-resistant bacteria. Upon light irradiation, the OPFV-NB can produce aldehyde active groups to covalently bind outer membrane proteins, such as tolerant colicin (TolC), blocking drug efflux of bacteria.

Lactic acid bacteria (LAB) are usually freeze-dried into powder for transportation and storage, with the bacterial membrane playing a crucial role in this process. However, different strains exhibit different levels of freeze-drying resistance in their cell membranes. In this study, () strains 1F20, K56, and J5, demonstrating survival rates of 59.

Background: The S147G mutation is associated with high-level resistance to the integrase strand transfer inhibitor (INSTI) elvitegravir. In several poorly documented cases, it was also selected in patients on dolutegravir. Given the widespread use of dolutegravir, further studies of S147G are required.

The Flinders sensitive line (FSL) rat is an accepted rodent model for depression that presents with strong face, construct, and predictive validity, thereby making it suitable to investigate novel antidepressant mechanisms. Despite the translatability of this model, available literature on this model has not been reviewed for more than ten years. The PubMed, ScienceDirect and Web of Science databases were searched for relevant articles between 2013 and 2024, with keywords relating to the Flinders line rat, and all findings relevant to treatment naïve animals, included.
