Thirty healthy male volunteers were used in this double blind trial. Two kinds of iron preparation and a placebo tablet containing no iron salt were used. The subjects were given one three times a day after meals in courses of 21 tablets. Stools collected before and after administration of the tablets were subjected to a benzidine test (Thornton and Illingworth, 1955). The results showed that both iron preparations increased the number of positive results obtained by means of the benzidine test. The analyses failed to show any significant difference between the effects of the two preparations.

Article Synopsis
  • The study focuses on creating a new SERS substrate using a hybrid of gold nanoparticles (Au NPs) and crystalline carbon nitride nano-walls (CCN NWs) on an aluminum sheet to detect benzidine residue, which poses risks to food safety and the environment.
  • The novel Au/CCN NWs/Al substrate demonstrates rapid enrichment of benzidine within 120 seconds and achieves high sensitivity, indicating a significant enhancement factor (1.76×10) for detecting this contaminant.
  • Overall, the hybrid substrate exhibits excellent reproducibility (RSD = 9.11%) and accuracy (recovery rate of 95.55%-109.46%), showcasing its potential for real-world applications in monitoring benz

Sulfur ion (S) plays a significant and considerable role in many living organisms and ecosystems, while its abnormal content can pose a serious hazard to human health and ecological environment. Hence, it is extremely meaningful to construct a highly sensitive and selective analytical platform for S detection in complex microenvironment, particularly in biological systems. In this study, phosphomolybdic acid and L-Arg were utilized to prepare a new molybdenum doped carbon-dots nanozyme (Mo-CDs) with great peroxidase-like activity by one-step hydrothermal approach.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study explores the untapped potential of heterojunctions in photoelectrochemical (PEC) biosensors, particularly focusing on the tunable optical properties and enhanced electron transfer pathways by introducing different photoactive materials.
  • - A novel polarity-switchable dual-mode sensor was developed for detecting fat mass and obesity-associated (FTO) proteins using a specific dual type-II heterojunction system, which converts to a Z-scheme heterojunction upon interaction with CuO.
  • - The PEC method demonstrated high sensitivity and selectivity for FTO protein detection across a wide range (0.0005-500 μg/L) and also allowed for colorimetric detection observable by the naked eye due to the peroxidase-like

Heparin, a widely studied glycosaminoglycan, plays crucial roles in the regulation of various physiological and pathological processes. Therefore, it's important to develop highly selective and sensitive methods for convenient monitoring of heparin levels in biological systems. We report the design and synthesis of FeO@PDA@MnO nanoparticles (FPM-NPs), which exhibit dual enzymatic activities, enabling quantitative detection of heparin.
