Filtration of biological liquids has been widely employed in biological, medical, and environmental investigations due to its convenience; many could be performed without energy and on-site, particularly protein separation. However, most available membranes are universal protein absorption or sub-fractionation due to molecule sizes or properties. SPMA, or syringe-push membrane absorption, is a quick and easy way to prepare biofluids for protein evaluation.

Objective: The objective of this study was to characterize physiochemical and nutrient profiles of feedstock and co-products from canola bio-oil processing that were impacted by source origin. Due to their endosymbiotic origin, chloroplasts harbor several subcompartments and membrane systems. Each of these has a different protein and lipid composition that dynamically changes either naturally during plant development or induced by environmental stimuli. Here, we describe a protocol for chloroplast envelope membrane subfractionation via discontinuous sucrose gradients, which offers the possibility to separate the different plastid subcompartments for several downstream applications.

The clinical evaluation of lipid metabolism in equids is often limited to the measurement of total cholesterol and triglyceride concentrations. This provides a limited picture of metabolic state and general health, given the continuous exchange of lipid species between various lipoproteins. Major lipoprotein classes in equids include high-density lipoprotein (HDL), intermediate-density lipoprotein (IDL), low-density lipoprotein (LDL), very low-density lipoprotein (VLDL), and chylomicrons (CM).

One of the major challenges for the modern society, is the development of a sustainable economy also aiming at the valorization of agro-industrial by-products in conjunction with at a significant reduction of generated residues from farm to retail. In this context, the present study demonstrates a biotechnological approach to yield bioactive peptides from a protein fraction obtained as a by-product of the rice starch production. Enzymatic hydrolysis, with the commercial proteases Alcalase and Protamex, were optimized in bioreactor up to 2 L of volume.
