1. Purified liver nuclei from adult rats separate into two main zones when centrifuged in the slow-speed zonal rotor. One zone contains diploid nuclei, the other tetraploid. 2. The effect of age on the pattern of rat liver ploidy was examined. Tetraploid nuclei are virtually absent from young animals. They increase in proportion steadily with age. Partial hepatectomy disturbs the pattern of ploidy. 3. The zonal centrifuge permits the separation of diploid, tetraploid, octaploid and hexadecaploid nuclei from mouse liver. 4. Rat liver nuclei are isopycnic with sucrose solutions of density 1.35 at 5 degrees .

Microcystin-leucine arginine (MC-LR) poses a serious threat to aquatic animals during cyanobacterial blooms. Recently, biochar (BC), derived from rice straw, has emerged as a potent adsorbent for eliminating hazardous contaminants from water. To assess the joint hepatotoxic effects of environmentally relevant concentrations of MC-LR and BC on fish, male adult zebrafish () were sub-chronically co-exposed to varying concentrations of MC-LR (0, 1, 5, and 25 μg/L) and BC (0 and 100 μg/L) in a fully factorial experiment.

Background: STARR-seq and other massively-parallel reporter assays are widely used to discover functional enhancers in transfected cell models, which can be confounded by plasmid vector-induced type-I interferon immune responses and lack the multicellular environment and endogenous chromatin state of complex mammalian tissues.
Results: We describe HDI-STARR-seq, which combines STARR-seq plasmid library delivery to the liver, by hydrodynamic tail vein injection (HDI), with reporter RNA transcriptional initiation driven by a minimal Albumin promoter, which we show is essential for mouse liver STARR-seq enhancer activity assayed 7 days after HDI. Importantly, little or no vector-induced innate type-I interferon responses were observed.

Primary hepatoid adenocarcinoma (HAC) of the uterus is a particular tumour that bears high similarity to hepatocellular carcinoma histologically, and may easily be misdiagnosed because it is rare if you don' t remember it. In this report, we describe two cases of alpha-fetoprotein (AFP)-producing HAC of the uterus. Case 1 was a 69-year-old postmenopausal woman who was presented to the hospital for a medical examination.

Objectives: To observe the effect of "Shugan Tiaoshen"(soothing the liver and regulating the mental activities) needling on the expressions of AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) and autophagy-related proteins in the prefrontal cortex of rats with depression after ischemic stroke (post-stroke depression), in order to explore its mechanisms underlying improvement of post-stroke depression behaviors.
Methods: A total of 60 male SD rats were randomly divided into sham operation (control), stroke, post-stroke depression, inhibitor, acupuncture, and acupuncture + inhibitor groups. The post-stroke depression model was established by occlusion of the middle cerebral artery and reperfusion (MCAO/R), combined with chronic unpredictable mild stimulation (CUMS).

Background: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) exhibits an exceptional intratumoral heterogeneity that might influence diagnosis and outcome. Advances in digital microscopy and artificial intelligence (AI) may improve the HCC identification of liver cancer cells.
Aim: Two AI algorithms were designed to perform computer-assisted discrimination of tumour from non-tumour nuclei in HCC.
