Synergistic effects of oleanolic acid and curcumin nanoparticles in gastric ulcer prevention.

Int J Pharm

March 2025

SKL of Marine Food Processing & Safety Control, National Engineering Research Center of Seafood, Collaborative Innovation Center of Seafood Deep Processing, School of Food Science and Technology, Dalian Polytechnic University, Dalian 116034, China. Electronic address:

Gastric ulcers (GC) are prevalent gastrointestinal disorders with complex etiologies, including Helicobacter pylori infection and prolonged use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). Curcumin (CUR), with its established anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, is limited in clinical application due to poor bioavailability. This study developed oleanolic acid-coated CUR nanoparticles (OC NPs) to enhance the efficacy of CUR in GC prevention.

Nimesulide: Critical Appraisal of Safety and Efficacy in Acute Pain.

J Assoc Physicians India

March 2025

President and Chief Medical Officer, Medical Division, Alkem Laboratories, Mumbai, Maharashtra, India.

Nimesulide, a potent nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), has garnered attention for its distinct mechanism of action, characterized by its selective inhibition of cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) and multifaceted pharmacological properties. Extensive clinical evidence supports its safety and efficacy in addressing acute pain syndromes. In this comprehensive review, we undertake a thorough examination of various dimensions surrounding nimesulide, encompassing its historical evolution, intricate mode of action, pharmacokinetic attributes, clinical efficacy in managing acute pain, and notably its safety profile.

Pre-frailty is associated with higher risk of gastroesophageal reflux disease: a large prospective cohort study.

Sci Rep

March 2025

Department of Gastroenterology, The Second Hospital, Cheeloo College of Medicine, Shandong University, Jinan, 250033, Shandong, China.

To investigate the prospective association of frailty status, especially the early stage, with the long-term risk of Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) in a large prospective cohort. We included participants who were free of GERD and cancer at baseline and use of aspirin and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) from the UK Biobank (UKB). Frailty status was assessed using Fried phenotype including five items (weight loss, exhaustion, low grip strength, low physical activity, slow walking pace) and classified as non-frail, pre-frail, and frail.

Background: Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) can increase fluid retention and the risk of heart failure (HF). Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is known to increase the risk of cardiac disease, including HF. As part of a modern multimodal pain protocol, NSAIDs are commonly used in total knee arthroplasty (TKA), but the risk of NSAID use in TKA for T2DM patients is not well understood.
