Ulcerative colitis (UC) remains an intractable and relapsing disease featured by intestinal inflammation. The anti-UC activity of Akkermansia muciniphila (AKK), an intestinal microorganism, has been widely investigated. With climate change, the frequency of regions experiencing water scarcity is increasing annually, posing a significant challenge to crop yield. Barley, a staple crop consumed and cultivated globally, is particularly susceptible to the detrimental effects of drought stress, leading to reduced yield production. Water scarcity adversely affects multiple aspects of barley growth, including seed germination, biomass production, shoot and root characteristics, water and osmotic status, photosynthesis, and induces oxidative stress, resulting in considerable losses in grain yield and its components.

Biofilm is an assemblage of microorganisms embedded within the extracellular matrix that provides mechanical stability, nutrient absorption, antimicrobial resistance, cell-cell interactions, and defence against host immune system. Various biomolecules such as lipids, carbohydrates, protein polymers (amyloid), and eDNA are present in the matrix playing significant role in determining the distinctive properties of biofilm. The formation of biofilms contributes to resistance against antimicrobial therapy in most of the human infections and exacerbates existing diseases.

Diabetes mellitus represents a significant global health problem. The number of people suffering from this metabolic disease is constantly rising and although the incidence is heterogeneous depending on region, country, economic situation, lifestyle, diet and level of medical care, it is increasing worldwide, especially among youths and children, mainly due to lifestyle and environmental changes. The pathogenesis of the two most common subtypes of diabetes mellitus, type 1 (T1DM) and type 2 (T2DM), is substantially different, so each form is characterized by a different causation, etiology, pathophysiology, presentation, and treatment.
