Background & Objectives: : The presence of Babesia spp in humans, bovine cattle and ticks (the transmitting vector) has not been well characterized in Colombia. Babesia infection in humans can be overlooked due to similarity of the disease symptoms with malaria specially in the regions where malaria is endemic. The aim of the present work was to study the frequency of Babesia infection in humans, bovines and ticks in a malaria endemic region of Colombia, and explore the possible relationship of infection with host and the environmental factors.

The influences of several risk factors (temporal, mechanical, zootechnical and nutritional) on the incidence of placental retention (PR) were tested. The study was conducted in Brittany on 5,240 calvings of Black-Pied females belonging to 47 herds surveyed over a period of four consecutive years. For twin births, the PR-incidence levels were only decreased in the case of calves born alive.

Between 1920 and 1940 others reported on streptococci, lobular haemmorrhagic pneumonia, bordetellosis, Aujeszky's disease and postweaning diarrhoea.

The present paper reports on a Q fever episode, including 45 subjects (caretakers, technicians, workers building stables) in a zootechnical cooperative in the district of Argeş. In the new unit milch and reproduction cows were brought from various parts of the district. None of the animals showed visible signs of the disease.
