Atomic force microscopy-infrared spectroscopy (AFM-IR) is a photothermal scanning probe technique that combines nanoscale spatial resolution with the chemical analysis capability of mid-infrared spectroscopy. Using this hybrid technique, chemical identification down to the single molecule level has been demonstrated. However, the mechanism at the heart of AFM-IR, the transduction of local photothermal heating to cantilever deflection, is still not fully understood.

Frameshifting is an essential mechanism employed by many viruses including coronaviruses to produce viral proteins from a compact RNA genome. It is facilitated by specific RNA folds in the frameshift element (FSE), which has emerged as an important therapeutic target. For SARS-CoV-2, a specific 3-stem pseudoknot has been identified to stimulate frameshifting.

Reductive phosphatization is an original synthesis approach to the formation of transition metal phosphates (TMPs). The approach enables the synthesis of known TMPs, but also new compounds, especially with transition metals in a low-valent state. However, to exploit the enormous potential of this synthesis method, it is necessary to identify and characterize all of the potential intermediates and final synthesis products.

Freestanding networked nanoparticle (NP) films hold substantial potential due to their high surface areas and customizable porosities. However, NPs with high surface energies and heterogeneous sizes or shapes present considerable challenges as they tend to aggregate, compromising their structural integrities. In this study, we report the scalable fabrication of ultrathin, bicontinuous, and densely packed carbon NP films via Pickering emulsion-mediated interfacial assembly.

The source of nitrous acid (HONO) and its importance in island or marine environments are poorly understood. Herein, based on comprehensive field measurements at a hilltop on Corsica Island, we find an inverse diel variation of HONO with higher concentrations during daytime. Night-time HONO budget analysis indicates significant HONO formation during air mass transport along the hillside.
