Digital brains, green gains: Artificial intelligence's path to sustainable transformation.

J Environ Manage

November 2024

Energy Centre, Department of Economics, Business School, The University of Auckland, Auckland, New Zealand. Electronic address:

The environmental impacts of artificial intelligence on a global scale remain underexplored. This study utilizes a balanced panel dataset to examine artificial intelligence's complex role in enhancing global green productivity between 2008 and 2019. The findings indicate that artificial intelligence robustly boosts green productivity, even after correcting for potential endogeneity using the legal system's origin as an instrument.

Muscle-origin creatinine-cystatin C ratio is an osteoporosis marker in individuals with normal renal function: evidence from observational and Mendelian randomization analysis.

Front Endocrinol (Lausanne)

June 2024

Collaborative Innovation Center for Bone and Immunology Between Sihong Hospital and Soochow University, Center for Genetic Epidemiology and Genomics, School of Public Health, Suzhou Medical College of Soochow University, Suzhou, Jiangsu, China.

Background: Creatinine-cystatin C ratio (CCR) has been demonstrated as an objective marker of sarcopenia in clinical conditions but has not been evaluated as an osteoporosis marker in individuals with normal renal function.

Methods: We selected 271,831 participants with normal renal function from UK Biobank cohort. Multivariable linear/logistic regression and Cox proportional hazards model were used to investigate the phenotypic relationship between CCR and osteoporosis in total subjects and gender-stratified subjects.

This paper studies the control problem for a continuous-time networked system with non-linearity in the state equation as well as in the input, as saturation. The system is considered under denial-of-service (DoS), attacks which cause the blockage of input and/or output components in the overall closed-loop model. An event-triggering scheme that is resilient in nature, along with an observer-based control, has been considered under DoS attacks.

Article Synopsis
  • Vitamin B12 is essential for human health, but its relationship with mortality rates isn't fully understood, prompting a systematic review and meta-analysis to study this connection.
  • The analysis included 22 cohort studies with over 92,000 participants, revealing that higher serum vitamin B12 levels were associated with increased all-cause mortality, particularly in older adults.
  • While high vitamin B12 (>600 pmol/L) showed a strong correlation with all-cause and cardiovascular mortality, the evidence for its link to cancer mortality was inconclusive.

An automated experiment in multimodal imaging to probe structural, chemical, and functional behaviors in complex materials and elucidate the dominant physical mechanisms that control device function is developed and implemented. Here, the emergence of non-linear electromechanical responses in piezoresponse force microscopy (PFM) is explored. Non-linear responses in PFM can originate from multiple mechanisms, including intrinsic material responses often controlled by domain structure, surface topography that affects the mechanical phenomena at the tip-surface junction, and the presence of surface contaminants.
