Background: Antihypertensives (AHD) can influence cerebral autoregulation (CA) and attenuate hypertrophic concentric remodelling of arterioles. The aim of this study was to examine the associations between AHD, CA and structural and functional properties of cerebral arteries.
Methods: In this observational, cross-sectional study 115 volunteers were divided in group 1 (non-hypertensive) [n = 30]; group 2 (hypertensive with systolic blood pressure [SBP] < 140 and diastolic blood pressure [DBP] < 90 mmHg) [n = 54]; group 3 (hypertensive with SBP ≥ 140 or DBP ≥ 90 mmHg) [n = 31] and simultaneous measurements of systemic blood pressure (BP) and middle cerebral artery blood flow velocity (CBFV) were obtained from digital plethysmography and transcranial Doppler.

Coronary microvascular vasodilator capacity is substantially associated with coronary pressure waveform and dicrotic notch morphology, with or without concomitant epicardial disease. A prominent dicrotic notch is associated with preserved microvascular vasodilatory capacity and adequate resting microvascular tonus without relative hyperaemic state, cumulatively indicating a better microcirculatory health.

Methods: Potential mechanisms of action associated with endothelial vasorelaxant compounds, voltage-gated Ca2+ channels (LTCCs), and inositol triphosphate receptors were examined in isolated rat aortic rings. Also, an in silico approach was used to predict the activity of the two test compounds.

: Sulodexide (SDX) is a drug known for restoring the glycocalyx, thereby offering endothelial protection and regulating permeability. Additionally, it has antithrombotic and anti-inflammatory properties and has shown arterial vasodilatory effects. Endothelial cells play a crucial role in maintaining homeostasis, with their dysfunction being a key contributor to loss in vasodilatory response, especially in arterial pathologies.
