Objective: This research aims to investigate whether peripheral biomarkers might differentiate individuals with Tourette syndrome (TS) from those without the condition.

Methods: A broad range of databases was searched through November 2022. This study employed a systematic literature review and subsequent meta-analysis of case-control studies that assessed the aberration of biomarkers of patients with TS and controls.

The high burden of disease and the long-lasting sequelae following Streptococcus pyogenes (Strep A) infections make the development of an effective vaccine a global health priority. Streptolysin O (SLO), is a key toxin in the complex pathogenesis of Strep A infection. Antibodies are elicited against SLO after natural exposure and represent a key target for vaccine-induced immunity.

Objectives/background: Narcolepsy type 1 (NT1) is an immune-mediated disorder characterized by excessive daytime sleepiness, cataplexy, low levels of hypocretin-1 in the cerebrospinal fluid, and a strong association with the HLA DQB1*06:02 allele. There is evidence for streptococcal infections as one pathogenic factor that may lead to NT1 as part of a multifactorial pathogenesis. Elevated titers of Antistreptolysin-O antibodies and increased inflammatory activity in response to streptococci antigens have been described in patients with NT1.

Serological detection and genetic characterization of foot-and-mouth disease virus from cattle in northern sudan, 2016‑2018.

Vet Anim Sci

September 2021

Foot-and-Mouth-Disease Department, Central Veterinary Research Laboratory (CVRL), Soba, P.O. Box 8067, Al Amarat, Khartoum, Sudan.

Northern Sudan is an important corridor cluster between pools of foot-and-mouth disease virus (FMDV) in East and North Africa. It involves almost the whole border area with Egypt and represents a considerable part of a projected disease-free zone in Sudan. The study monitored FMD infection between 2016 and 2018 in Northern Sudan.

Immunity and Gilles de la Tourette syndrome: A systematic review and meta-analysis of evidence for immune implications in Tourette syndrome.

Eur J Neurol

September 2021

Assistance Publique-Hôpitaux de Paris, Pôle de Psychiatrie, Hôpitaux Universitaires Henri Mondor-Albert Chenevier, Paris-East Créteil University, Créteil, France.

Background And Purpose: The neurobiology of Gilles de la Tourette syndrome (GTS) is known to involve corticostriatal loops possibly under genetic control. Less is known about possible environmental triggers of GTS. Specifically, immune-related events following possible environmental inducers have been evoked, but important controversies still exist.
