The possible hepatocarcinogenic effect of lindane was studied in an 80-week study using 500 NMRI mice (strain Chbi : NMRI (SPF)). After giving doses of 12.5, 25 and 50 ppm in the food no compound-induced liver tumours were observed. Neither the occurrence of lymphatic leukemia, malignant haemangioendotheliomas, reticulum cell neoplasms nor liver cell adenomas could be related to the administration of the compound. In view of the actual residue level of lindane the probability of carcinogenic risk to man would appear remote.

Helping parents to cope with infant regulatory disorders.

Front Child Adolesc Psychiatry

March 2024

Research Department of Behavioural Science and Health, University College London, London, United Kingdom.

The term Regulatory Disorders (RDs) refers to infants and young children who cry a lot, have poorly organised sleep-waking, or whose feeding is impaired. The characteristic they share is a failure to acquire autonomous self-control of these key behaviours, which most children develop in the first postnatal year. The concept of RDs is helpful in highlighting this question of how infant self-regulation is, or isn't, accomplished, in drawing these characteristics together and distinguishing them from others, and in focusing research and clinical attention on a common, but relatively neglected, set of concerns for families.

Introduction: The COVID-19 pandemic had significant impacts on youth health and well-being. Youth with prior inequities, such as those exposed to child maltreatment, may have experienced greater psychosocial challenges and long-term difficulties than their peers, including sustained interpersonal relationships problems. Given the importance of healthy relationships during adolescence and early adulthood, the significant impact the pandemic had on youth, and the potential disproportionate challenges for youth with a child maltreatment history, the purpose of the present study was to better understand changes in relational conflict among youth with and without a child maltreatment history from the perspectives of youth themselves.

Objectives: Grounded in the Health Empowerment Model, which posits that health literacy and patient empowerment are intertwined yet distinct constructs, this study investigates how the interplay of these factors influences attitudes toward seeking professional psychological help in members of online communities for mental health (OCMHs). This while acknowledging the multidimensionality of patient empowerment, encompassing meaningfulness, competence, self-determination, and impact.

Design And Methods: A cluster analysis of data gathered from 269 members of Italian-speaking OCMHs on Facebook has been performed.

Background: With the population ageing, more victims of community crime are likely to be older adults. The psychological impact of crime on older victims is significant and sustained, but only feasibility trials have been published regarding potential interventions. The integration of public health and care services and cross-agency working is recommended, but there is little information on how this should be undertaken.

Recent advances in recombinant production of soluble proteins in E. coli.

Microb Cell Fact

January 2025

Lab of Environmental and Life Sciences, University of Nova Gorica, Vipavska cesta 13, Nova Gorica, 5000, Slovenia.

Background: E. coli still remains the most commonly used organism to produce recombinant proteins in research labs. This condition is mirrored by the attention that researchers dedicate to understanding the biology behind protein expression, which is then exploited to improve the effectiveness of the technology.
