Genetic epilepsy with febrile seizures plus (GEFS+) is a genetic epilepsy syndrome characterized by a marked hereditary tendency inherited as an autosomal dominant trait. Patients with GEFS+ may develop typical febrile seizures (FS), while generalized tonic-clonic seizures (GTCSs) with fever commonly occur between 3 months and 6 years of age, which is generally followed by febrile seizure plus (FS+), with or without absence seizures, focal seizures, or GTCSs. GEFS+ exhibits significant genetic heterogeneity, with polymerase chain reaction, exon sequencing, and single nucleotide polymorphism analyses all showing that the occurrence of GEFS+ is mainly related to mutations in the gamma-aminobutyric acid type A receptor gamma 2 subunit (GABRG2) gene.

Background: Sleep is critical to human beings in a surprisingly diverse set of ways, and there is, thus, continual investigation into the mechanisms of sleep. Although current studies have confirmed that multiple brain regions are involved in the regulation of both sleep and wakefulness, the association between certain important brain regions such as the insula and sleep is still unclear.
Objective: The purpose of this study was to systematically review studies on the insula and sleep and to discuss the relationship between the insula and sleep.

Depression is a serious mental illness and a prevalent condition with multiple aetiologies. The impact of the current therapeutic strategies is limited and the pathogenesis of the illness is not well understood. According to previous studies, depression onset is influenced by a variety of environmental and genetic factors, including chronic stress, aberrant changes in gene expression, and hereditary predisposition.

Aims: There have been recent reports that reconsolidation-based interventions attenuate drug reward memories in rodents. The insular cortex (IC) is an essential part of neural circuits that underlie cue-drug memory reconsolidation. GABAergic interneurons in the IC are a potent control on network excitability and play an important role in the inhibitory mediation of reward circuits.
