Mycobacterium abscessus (Mabs), an intracellular and opportunistic pathogen, is considered the most pathogenic fast-growing mycobacterium, and causes severe pulmonary infections in patients with cystic fibrosis. While bacterial factors contributing to its pathogenicity are well studied, the host factors and responses that worsen Mabs infection are not fully understood. Here, we report that Mabs systemic infection alters Drosophila melanogaster intestinal homeostasis.

Mycobacterium species cause several vital human diseases, including tuberculosis and non-tuberculous mycobacterial infections which are treated with different drug regimens Therefore, accurate and rapid diagnosis is essential for effective treatment and controlling the spread of these pathogens. This study aims to develop the isothermal method combining RPA and CRISPR-Cas12a techniques, named as MyTRACK, to detect and differentiate major clinical mycobacteria at the species level. The assay has no cross-reactivity with limit of detection of 1 to 100 copies/reaction for various targeted mycobacteria.

The factors that determine the appearance of the different pathologic forms associated with bovine paratuberculosis are not fully understood, but new research suggests a critical role of innate immunity. Toll-like receptors (TLRs) trigger the recognition of invading pathogens by innate immune cells and the onset of specific immune responses. The aim of this work was to assess, immunohistochemically, the expression of TLR1, TLR2, TLR4, and TLR9 in intestinal samples of 20 cows showing different types of paratuberculous lesions: uninfected controls, focal lesions, paucibacillary, and multibacillary diffuse forms.
