Three throat swab samples from infants and young children in Hubei Province were identified as positive for enteroviruses. All subjects were one month old, and the onset of symptoms occurred in June; these cases were sporadic and exhibited no clear epidemiological associations. The results of VP1 gene amplification analysis indicated that all three infant cases were attributed to Echovirus 30 (ECHO30).

In 2022-23, several European countries reported paediatric acute liver failure (ALF) with enterovirus infection. In August-November 2024, three neonatal cases of ALF with echovirus 11 (E11) were reported in Tokyo, Japan. All neonates developed irreversible multiple-organ failure and died.

Coxsackievirus B2 (CVB2) is a member of the enterovirus group known to induce a spectrum of illnesses, from mild to severe. In the summer of 2022, an unusual outbreak of enteroviral central nervous system (CNS) infections occurred that was attributed to CVB2. Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) samples collected from patients in 2015-2022 were tested for enterovirus via RT-PCR, followed by Sanger sequencing for positive cases.
