After allogeneic HSCT (allo-HSCT), the diversity of the intestinal microbiota significantly decreases. The changes can be rapid and are thought to be caused by chemotherapy, antibiotics, or intestinal inflammation. Most patients are exposed to prophylactic and therapeutic antibiotics during neutropenia and several patients are colonized by ESBL bacteria.

Phenazine biosynthesis-like domain-containing protein (PBLD) and Cedrelone have been identified as tumor suppressors. However, their roles in virus infection remain unclear. Here, we demonstrate that PBLD upregulates the type I interferon (IFN-I) response through activating NF-kappaB (NF-κB) signaling pathway to resist viral infection in cells and mice.

[Tandem mass spectrometry screening and genetic analysis of neonates with Urea cycle disorders].

Zhonghua Yi Xue Yi Chuan Xue Za Zhi

January 2025

Department of Medical Genetics and Prenatal Diagnosis, Xuzhou Maternity and Child Health Care Hospital, Xuzhou, Jiangsu 221009, China.

Objective: To explore the results of four types of Urea cycle disorders (UCDs) in newborns from the Xuzhou region, assess the efficacy of newborn screening by tandem mass spectrometry (MS/MS), and analyze their genetic characteristics.

Methods: A retrospective analysis was performed using tandem mass spectrometry to screen for inherited metabolic disorders in 691 712 newborns at the Maternal and Child Health Care Hospital of Xuzhou from November 2015 to December 2023. Ten children (cases 1-10) were diagnosed with Ornithine transcarbamylase deficiency (OTCD), Carbamoylphosphate synthase 1 deficiency (CPS1D), Arginase deficiency (ARGD), and Argininosuccinate synthase deficiency (ASSD) based on MS/MS and genetic testing.

Copper compounds with artificial metallo-nuclease (AMN) activity are mechanistically unique compared to established metallodrugs. Here, we describe the development of a new dinuclear copper AMN, Cu2-BPL-C6 (BPL-C6 = bis-1,10-phenanthroline-carbon-6), prepared using click chemistry that demonstrates site-specific DNA recognition with low micromolar cleavage activity. The BPL-C6 ligand was designed to force two redox-active copper centres-central for enhancing AMN activity-to bind DNA, via two phenanthroline ligands separated by an aliphatic linker.

Registries in allergy: Structure, target groups, and key findings of allergy-focused registries in Germany.

Allergol Select

December 2024

Division of Allergy and Immunology, Department of Dermatology, Venerology and Allergology, Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin, Berlin, Germany.

In allergology, clinical registries fill knowledge gaps of epidemiology, mechanisms of allergic diseases, and real-world treatment outcomes. Considering the continuous rise of allergic diseases worldwide, registries become increasingly important for the optimization and harmonization of patient care. In the current review, we present four ongoing allergy-focused registries initiated in Germany.
