Microscopic Origin of the Spatial and Temporal Precision in Biological Systems.

Biophys Rep (N Y)

January 2025

Center for Theoretical Biological Physics, Rice University, Houston, Texas 77005, USA; Department of Chemistry, Rice University, Houston, Texas 77005, USA; Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, Rice University, Houston, Texas 77005, USA. Electronic address:

All living systems display remarkable spatial and temporal precision, despite operating in intrinsically fluctuating environments. It is even more surprising given that biological phenomena are regulated by multiple chemical reactions that are also random. While the underlying molecular mechanisms of surprisingly high precision in biology remain not well understood, a novel theoretical picture that relies on the coupling of relevant stochastic processes has been recently proposed and applied to explain different phenomena.

Bacillus pumilus G5 combined with silicon enhanced flavonoid biosynthesis in drought-stressed Glycyrrhiza uralensis Fisch. by regulating jasmonate, gibberellin and ethylene crosstalk.

Plant Physiol Biochem

January 2025

College of Pharmacy, Ningxia Medical University, Yinchuan, 750004, China; Ningxia Engineering and Technology Research Center of Regional Characterizistic Traditional Chinese Medicine, Ningxia Collaborative Innovation Center of Regional Characterizistic Traditional Chinese Medicine, Key Laboratory of Protection, Development and Utilization of Medicinal Resources in Liupanshan, Yinchuan, 750004, China. Electronic address:

Drought stress poses a significant threat to global agricultural production, including the cultivation of medicinal plants. Plant growth-promoting bacteria (PGPB) and the eco-friendly element silicon (Si) are known to alleviate the adverse effects of drought stress. This study examines how inoculation with Bacillus pumilus G5 or/and Si influences plant hormone signaling and flavonoid biosynthesis pathways in drought-stressed Glycyrrhiza uralensis Fisch.

Systematic bias in malaria parasite relatedness estimation.

G3 (Bethesda)

January 2025

Infectious Disease Epidemiology and Analytics G5 Unit, Institut Pasteur, Université Paris Cité, Paris 75015, France.

Genetic studies of Plasmodium parasites increasingly feature relatedness estimates. However, various aspects of malaria parasite relatedness estimation are not fully understood. For example, relatedness estimates based on whole-genome-sequence (WGS) data often exceed those based on sparser data types.

Background: Considering how gendered experiences play a role in the lives of patients with heart failure (HF) is critical in order to understand their experiences, optimise clinical care and reduce health inequalities.

Objectives: The aim of our study was to review how gender is being studied in qualitative research in HF, specifically to (1) analyse how gender is conceptualised and applied in qualitative HF research; and (2) identify methodological opportunities to better understand the gendered experiences of patients with HF.

Eligibility Criteria: We conducted a systematic search of literature, including qualitive or mixed-methods articles focussing on patients' perspectives in HF and using gender as a primary analytical factor, excluding articles published before 2000.

Background: Sepsis is a critical condition associated with high mortality rates that necessitates effective fluid resuscitation. Crystalloids are widely utilized; however, human albumin solutions have been attributed potential oncotic and anti-inflammatory benefits. Given the ongoing debate and the absence of definitive empirical evidence, expert opinions provide valuable insights into the contextual and practical aspects of fluid management.
